PATRIOTIC OBSERVANCE: August 29, 1957 - Strom Thurmond ended the longest filibuster in U.S. Senate history. He spoke
for more than 24 hours against a civil rights bill; the bill passed.

1. MENTOR PROGRAM: It's not to late to sign up to Mentor. Turn in forms to RM 17 or the office. Interviews Mon.-Wed. at lunch
12:40-1pm and Wednesday after school 3:05-4:10pm.Mock Trial – Interested in Mock Trial? Informational meeting on Friday
at lunch in Rm. 37. Mandatory for returning members.
2. Hall of Fame Club - meeting Monday 12:45 in the Hall of Fame. All are welcome. Officers will be elected.
3. MEChA Club – meeting Monday at lunch Rm. 46. New members are welcome.
4. Social Equality Club – meeting at lunch on Tuesday in RM. 37. Everyone is welcome!
SENIORS:
1. OFF CAMPUS - Starting Monday August 29th parents can come in to sign your off campus pass from 7:30-8:00 or 3:00-3:30.
You must have a 2.0, good attendance and good behavior! We will need proof of insurance, a copy of your driver’s license,
and license plate numbers.
2. If you would like assistance on how to apply to any CSU or thinking of attending CSU Channel Islands please bring your lunch
to the College & Career Center in room 5 on Wednesday August 31, 2016 a representative from CSUCI will be here to help.
STUDENTS:
1. PICTURES - If you ordered school pictures at registration, please pick-up your packets from Lynn in the Student Store.
2. MAKE UP PICTURE DAY – MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12TH. If you missed registration, you will have your picture taken for the
yearbook and an ID Card. More info to follow.
3. SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL – Students looking for an opportunity to demonstrate leadership skills (looks
good on scholarship and college applications) should submit their name for nomination to participate in
School Site Council. See Barbara Lemons in the office. School Site Council meets from 4:00 to 6:00, one
Thursday a month.
4. The last day to change your schedule is Wednesday, August 31st.
5. Ventura College classes at FHS: CJ VO2 – Monday, Aug. 29 MUS V06 – Tuesday, Aug. 30. Classes will
be in Rm. 46
6. Back to School Night – September 8th 5:30 – 7:30
7. Fillmore High School students are not allowed on the FMS campus unless they have a pre-approval from the teacher. Also,
make sure you walk around and not through FMS parking lot.
