How to Create a Fill in Multiple Blanks Question STEP 1 On the Control Panel, expand the Course Tools section and select Tests, Surveys, and Pools. STEP 2 On the Tests, Surveys, and Pools page, select Tests. Page 1 STEP 3 On the Tests page, click the Action Link to the right of a test's title and select Edit. STEP 4 On the action bar, point to Create Question to access the drop-down list. Then select Fill in the Blank. Page 2 STEP 5 Type the Question Text, adding the variables in square brackets. The variables identify the places for students to type missing values. Numbers, letters, or words can be used for the variables. STEP 6 Select Allow Partial Credit if you want to allot each correct answer a fraction of the total point value. STEP 7 Click Next. Page 3 STEP 8 Next, select the number of answers from the drop down list for each variable. A single variable can have more than one possible answer. STEP 9 Define the correct answer for each variable, and then select Exact Match, Contains, or Pattern Match from each answer’s drop down to specify how it will be evaluated against the student’s answer. STEP 10 Select the Case Sensitive check box if you want the answer to take capitalization into account. Page 4 STEP 11 Click Next. STEP 12 Optionally, type Feedback for correct and incorrect responses, add Categories and Keywords, and type Instructor Notes. Page 5 STEP 13 Now click Submit. STEP 14 The new Fill in Multiple Blanks question appears on the Test Canvas. The evaluation method, correct answer, and case sensitivity are listed. When students view the question, they see the text boxes in the locations of the variables. Page 6
