February Newsletter - Kiwi Explorers Early Education Centre

Kiwi Explorers Newsletter
February 2017
Kiwi Explorers would like to welcome all our new families and our new relieving teachers. All
the children and teachers have settled in really well and we are enjoying having them in our
centre. We are looking forward to another exciting month at Kiwi Explorers and are glad that
you and your families will be a part of this.
Please clearly name your child’s lunchbox and drink bottle as there have been a few children with the same
kind and can get confused. It would also be really helpful if your child has a named hat that they can leave
at Kiwi Explorers. We do have spare hats but are finding that the children who do not have their own hat are
wearing other children’s hats which is not really hygienic. Our policy is “no hat, no outside play” please see our
sun safe policy for further guidelines.
We hope you like the photos that were taken of your child. Please remember to get
your orders back in time. The due date for
these is Monday 13th March 2017.
PEANUT FREE ZONE: please remember
that due to a child having severe allergies
we have become a peanut free zone. This
includes peanut based spreads and
muesli bars containing peanuts. Thank you
Pick up times
Please note, it is important that you pick your children up at their correct sign out times as we roster
staff according to these. If you find you are consistently arriving early or late for drop off or pick up
please see Bex or Cath to change your child’s
times. We need your times to be accurate for
funding and staff ratio’s so please phone us if you
need to adjust these in a one off situation. If this
becomes a regular pattern we will need to resign
your child’s enrolled hours for MOE purposes.
Thank you to all those parents who do let us know
in advance it is very much appreciated.
Waitangi Day
Thank you to all who were able to make it to
our Waitangi Day picnic. We hoped you enjoyed
watching the children sing a few songs. We were
very proud of them learning these in two weeks.

Up and Coming events.
Megan from Ranzau school has been to visit our class she is the new entrant teacher in room 1.
We are in the process of planning a trip to do gymnastics and will be needing some parent help so once the
date is set please let us know if you will be available.
Junior Explorers
Welcome: Junior Explorers would like to welcome Bink, Ayla, Oceane, Thomas,
Ryan, Eliza and their families to Kiwi Explorers. We would also like to welcome Willow
S and Jose from Little Explorers group. We are looking forward to getting to know
you all better.
Monthly activities Over late January and early February Junior Explorers were involved in learning two new waiata ( E Rere Taku Poi and E Papa Waiari) and the
haka for our Waitangi Day celebrations. We enjoyed sharing a picnic lunch with our
families after the concert. We have also been involved in imaginary play of fishing
and camping which seems to be reflective of what families do outside of Kiwi Explorers. Up and running is also the KE hair salon. The children enjoy
washing, hair blow waving and straightening hair locks. Please also
see our planning board for other activities we have been involved
in.
Special Notes: Pease remember we are peanut free.
As the children are interested in fishing /boats etc does anyone have
any old children’s life jackets they do not want any more that we
could use in play to extend our children’s interest?
Up and Coming events:. Pancake day is on Tuesday 28th February 2017.We will be making yummy sweet and non-sweet pancakes on the day .
Little Explorers
Welcome: Atlas, Levi, Finley, Porter and their whanau to the little explorers group
Monthly activities: We have been focusing on climbing challenges this month, following our PMP programme, this has been a huge hit with our children, they have enjoyed climbing ladders in different areas of our
centre. Following this interest we took our children to Tahunanui playground, which was so much fun. Our children loved challenging themselves on all of the equipment.
Also this month we celebrated Waitangi day. We participated in a small performance alongside the junior explorers. We sang two waiata, one with rakau (sticks) and one with the poi.
Special Notes: Togs are a great idea to pack into your child's bag this time of year, we spend a lot of time
outside in the water play so saves lots of changes of clothes throughout the day.
Up and Coming events: Pancake day is on Tuesday 28th Feb, we will participate in making yummy sweet
pancakes alongside the Junior Explorers.
