It is recommended that pre-dental students maintain a GPA of 3.0, although many dental schools will
have GPA averages above this minimum.
Each dental school has different prerequisites. Research the schools you hope to enter.
The DAT test is over 4 hours long, can only be taken once every 90 days, costs $430 to take, and tests
in the following areas: Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Reading Comprehension, Perceptual
Ability and Quantitative Reasoning.
Most dental schools require a personal statement. It is a good idea to have good volunteer experience
related to health and community service to discuss in your statement.
Many dental schools require letters of recommendation.
Some dental schools require dental practice observation/shadowing. Loma Linda requires 50 hours of
shadowing. UOP requires 40 hours of shadowing.
