Press Release A NEW VISION OF JAPAN BY JOEL ROBUCHON On 2nd December 2008, Joël Robuchon, the world’s most starred Chef - with a total of 26 stars in the Michelin 2008 Guide -, launched in Monaco his first ever Japanese restaurant, YOSHI. In March 2010, Yoshi was awarded its first star in France’s coveted 2010 Michelin Guide. Over the past 30 years, Joël Robuchon has developed a great passion for Japan where he now has six restaurants serving French cuisine. YOSHI illustrates, through the refined cuisine and elegant interiors, Mr. Robuchon’s contemporary and poetic vision of Japan to which he is particularly attached. Located in the heart of the Principality, within the Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo, YOSHI, which means «kindness» in Japanese, offers a modern and healthy cuisine, created by Japanese Chef Takéo Yamazaki, under the helm of Joël Robuchon and Christophe Cussac, Executive Chef. Didier Gomez Design Joël Robuchon’s first japenese restaurant 2 Takéo Yamazaki trained with Joël Robuchon for five years when he launched his first restaurant in Japan, Château Robuchon. He then moved onto other establishments in Japan before coming to Monaco. After a year spent in the Principality, Takéo travelled back to Tokyo and joined Joël Robuchon again in 2003 at L’Atelier. Mr. Gomez has used light tones such as ivory, yellow and pale green and noble materials including ebony wood, stone and silk, resulting in a serene and delicate atmosphere, in harmony with Joël Robuchon’s cuisine. « It is a great pleasure to work with Joël Robuchon and the Métropole Monte-Carlo » comments the designer. « I really appreciate the constant desire to achieve the highest quality, the strong will to always push the limits further in order to create this fine jewellery piece which YOSHI has become ». Didier Gomez, who has already designed Japanese-inspired restaurants such as « Le Mood » 3 a Japanese-style garden, created by Jacques Messin. The garden designer has worked closely with Didier Gomez to create a transition space between inside and outside, thus creating a harmonious contrast with the city environment which surrounds the restaurant. Titled “Chef of the Century” by Gault Millau and voted “Best Restaurant in the World” by the International Herald Tribune for his first Parisbased restaurant, Jamin, Joël Robuchon currently runs 16 restaurants worldwide, included Hong Kong, Las Vegas, London, Macau, Monaco, Paris and Tokyo. In 2003, Mr. Robuchon launched the “Atelier” concept which rapidly became successful and which he has since developed internationally. YOSHI is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 12.15pm to 2.00pm for lunch and from 7.30pm to 10.30pm for dinner. With YOSHI, the Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo becomes a true « gourmet destination ». The hotel already offers the 2-Michelin starred Joël Robuchon Monte-Carlo Restaurant, the Lobby Bar, the most happening place in Monaco, and the Pool Restaurant, a true haven of peace in the heart of the Carré D’Or. Inaugurated in 2004, the Hotel Métropole Monte-Carlo was entirely decorated by internationally renowned French interior architect Jacques Garcia who has created a “21st century palace”, a timeless contemporary hotel oozing sophistication and prevailing chic. In November 2010, it received the highest accolade, “Best Hotel in the World” by the Leading Hotels of the World. The Métropole ESPA Monte-Carlo, which joined the prestigious “Leading Spas of the World” shortly after its opening in 2006, offers a complete range of treatments blending modern techniques and ancient therapies. In June 2013, Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo has partnered with Karl Lagerfeld who designed a bespoke muralstyle installation inspired by the Journey of Ulysses from Homer’s epic poems Iliad and Odyssey. In line with this Grecian theme, the hotel launched its third Joël Robuchon restaurant, ‘Odyssey’ adjacent to the pool area. The Michelin starred chef opened an alfresco dining experience in line with the artistic theme of the surrounding décor inspired by the Greek mythology, and created a Mediterranean menu offering a variety of light lunchtime dishes. During Summer months, come nightfall, ‘Odyssey’ transforms into a destination cocktail bar with live music, resident DJs and innovative canapés created especially by Robuchon. In Winter, Odyssey is covered by a hard top structure, creating an indoor pool area and restaurant space, accessible all year round.
