The dedicated staff at CRPR is pleased to present this report on the Fall 2012 programs offered to residents of the Centre Region. This report does not reflect the many visits made by residents to the municipal park facilities. CRPR - Where Everyone Plays!” Niki L. The weather did cooperate for “Dark in the Park” and the event had a fantastic turnout with over 125 attendees. Attendance for adult dance classes were lighter this year due to scheduling conflicts at the schools where the programs are hosted. As always, the Municipal Band concerts continue to draw a devoted crowd. Beth C. Some other highlights included Carol Lindsay's Drum Circle where the seniors were encouraged to make noise, release stress, and have fun. Google Earth was exciting for many! We visited the house that one participant was born in 88 years ago near Reading PA and one of another whose family member moved to Utah! This was a unique opportunity to take the Seniors to places they have never been. We celebrated our first Thanksgiving at the Center for seniors with no family to visit; we served dinner 25 and a good time was had by all! Partnering with Prime Time Health and Mt. Nittany Medical Center, two Flu Shot Clinics were offered in November and December providing approximately 130 flu shots. The three other Youth Tennis programs also continue to be popular. The Adult Volleyball League remains successful with 22 teams, as well as the Adult Flag Football League with 16 teams. The agency plans to expand the menu of Adult Fitness classes in 2013 to offer new options for residents. Adult Indoor Soccer was not offered this fall due to lack of an indoor facility. Jeff R. Hall, Recreation Supervisor - Sports & Fitness A combination of increased promotion and new programs was developed to reach a broader audience for all Agency programs - this cross marketing process will continue into 2013. Muck n Mess, held at Tudek Park, was a wonderful new program and a perfect opportunity to use one of Centre Region’s beautiful parks to introduce children to both the outdoors and tactile fun. The Kid’s Yard Sale was a huge success and we look forward to offering additional events in 2013. Beth C. The category for “Group Program Visits” was lower due to reduced school budgets and the lack of Connections Grant funds in Fall to assist the school groups. Special Event visitor counts were also impacted by the wintery weather for the Historic Harvest Festival, which lowered attendance by more than half from 2011. These numbers provide insight to the challenges the staff will address in 2013. Molly A. Hetrick, Recreation Supervisor - Nature Center Highlights of Park Operations • • • • • • • • • 150 picnic groups reserved park pavilions during September and October. Staff performed ongoing park maintenance including turf / plant maintenance, trash, recycling, leaf collection, facility repairs, vehicle and equipment maintenance, etc. All wooden park benches at the Overlook section of Tudek Park have been refurbished. This project will continue at all parks in 2013, as weather permits. Staff worked with Ferguson Township staff and contractors for the Tudek Phase 3 improvements, as well as projects at Tudek Dog Park and at Park Hills Park. Starting 1 Nov 2012, CRPR assumed maintenance responsibilities at Bernel Road Park from Patton Township. Staff coordinated and assisted with the geo-technical testing at Whitehall Road Regional Park. Staff performed water system winterization at all parks; assisted with the winterization at the two pools. Staff replenished playground safety surface materials and repaired several play structures across the region. With the cooperation of Ferguson Township and State College Borough, CRPR provided assistance with the Annual Holiday Tree for the Region. Jim R.
