John Deere WorkSight™ lets you realize more uptime, efficiency, and profitability It seems like every equipment manufacturer is selling telematics systems that can show you a bucketful of numbers about your machinery. But all the data in the world is only meaningful if something useful is done with it. At John Deere, we’ve elevated this point to an art form with the John Deere WorkSight suite of technologies and the expert assistance of our dealers. As a result, you’ll be able to do more than just gather a bunch of data to stare at — you’ll be able to manage your fleet more efficiently, maximize productivity and uptime, and lower operating costs. And that means more dollars to your bottom line. Interested? Read on. Software updates can correct minor service issues. When parts are needed, the technician arrives onsite with the correct component on the first tripto the field. 3 Machine Monitoring Proactive Machine health John Deere WorkSight starts with our own machine-monitoring system, JDLink™. Standard with three years of Ultimate service on most new Deere iron, JDLink delivers critical data via the Internet right to your laptop or even a cell or smartphone. You can see things such as machine location, hours, fuel consumption, and all-important idle time. Is someone really movin’ and ahead of schedule? Is another machine spending more time sitting still than moving dirt? You’ll be able to get a great read on productivity that will allow you to make time- and money-saving adjustments to your operation. You’ll also be able to set curfews and geofences, restricting engine start-up to certain designated areas and times, to make sure equipment is running only when and where you want it to be. There are also maintenance-management tools to let you know when it’s time for service or tell you when a trouble code has been thrown. You can visit www.JohnDeere.com/jdlink to view an up-to-the minute listing of all the data viewable through JDLink — we’ve barely scratched the surface. You can have machine health and security alerts sent to your email or cell phone, and even have the system escalate an alert to others if you haven’t acknowledged it within a predetermined time limit. The second integrated John Deere WorkSight solution is Fleet Care. Fleet Care is a Deere-exclusive program that takes data from JDLink, fluid analysis, and results from inspections by Deere-certified technicians, and interprets the whole enchilada, advising you on proactive steps to maintain machine health. That’s right, it actually “thinks through” the data and prescribes a course of action — so you don’t have to. It’s like a health-care wellness model for your fleet. Think of it this way: If tests tell your doctor that you have elevated blood pressure and cholesterol, you may find yourself on a high-fiber diet or perhaps prescribed medication and exercise. By taking immediate action at the first sign of trouble, you may avoid a serious heart condition down the road. Fleet Care does the same thing with your machines, going through the results of various “examinations” before prescribing downtime cures that will keep your fleet — and your bottom line — healthy. So, John Deere WorkSight gives you machine-monitoring data through its JDLink component and advanced analysis and uptime recommendations through Fleet Care. What about actually acting on what’s happening if a problem does occur? reMote dealer diagnostics Service ADVISOR™ Remote is another John Deere WorkSight exclusive that enables your dealer to read diagnostic trouble codes, record performance data, and update machine software remotely, without requiring a jobsite visit — for significant time and cost savings. Your dealer can also warn you of problems before they happen and initiate solutions. For example, your dealer receives an alert through JDLink or Fleet Care from your ADT that the transmission is overheating. A dealer technician checks JDLink and sees that transmission retarder usage is just one percent of operating time. The technician calls you and asks to establish a Service ADVISOR Remote connection to the machine to read trouble codes and record temperatures, speeds, pressures, brake usage, and payload information. The technician determines that there is nothing wrong with the machine. 4 The Construction Review InterIm tIer 4 Rather, the operator should be trained on proper transmission retarder usage to prevent a major drivetrain failure. Total diagnostic time and costs are minimal. In many cases, key information gathered remotely by your dealer also helps ensure that when you do need a part, the right part is sent out the first time. And readings can be taken while you still have full functionality of your machine. Better yet, if a software update is required, your technician can use Service ADVISOR Remote to install it without making a trip to your machine and hooking up a laptop. product spotlIght John Deere continues to update its line of equipment to meet the U.S. EPA’s Interim Tier 4 (IT4) emission standards. Grade control saves time and material, and enables you to create tighter, more competitive job quotes. That’s why Deere dozers and motor graders utilize an open-architecture approach to grade control. When you order grade-control-ready hydraulics on your machine, you can easily install the grade-control system of your choice. And now, you can also choose Topcon integrated grade control when you order your machine. You’ll get an expertly installed Topcon 3D-MC2 system ready for action from the second your machine rolls off the dealership trailer. On trucks, operators will know immediately when the dump body is filled to capacity as well as the total amount of material loaded and moved. And per-load data is not all. You’ll be able to measure and analyze totals on a daily basis remotely through JDLink, allowing you to make adjustments to operations, operators, hauling routes, and more. You’ll know what each truck is doing — all day, every day. as EPS, but with a separate monitor and optional printer for printing load tickets or end-of-shift reports. You can also utilize data at the office for better tracking and business management by transferring data from APS to a laptop through a serial connection. Or utilize the LOADRITE Material Management System (MSM) to wirelessly send data back to the production manager’s business system. Access to loader payload data in JDLink is coming, too. With all these services together in one powerful package, no equipment manufacturer can turn data into answers like John Deere. On loaders, you can opt for one of two systems: Embedded Payload Scale (EPS) provides basic onboard measuring and tracking of loads, by customer and material, as well as totals. Or use tip-off functions to let operators accurately load to order. If you know us, you also know that we’re not done. Not by a long shot. We’re constantly listening to customers like you to learn more about your needs. That’s why we’re working on next-generation solutions right now — great stuff like further integration of Topcon grade control. John Deere WorkSight will continue to evolve to serve your business. >> If your machine is dedicated to material loading, you’ll no doubt want Advanced Payload Scale (APS). APS is available through your LOADRITE™ distributor and offers the same functions Talk to your dealer today or visit JohnDeere.com/worksight to learn more. 6 The Construction Review
