Karen shared a lot of information about the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. There is a new program “ID Our Kids.” You may apply for an Ohio ID card for your child at any local deputy registrar location. Photo ID cards for children will assist authorities in the event that a child is reported missing. There is no minimum age for obtaining an Ohio ID card. Another new program is NEXT OF KIN / EMERGENCY CONTACT ENROLLMENT. This program adds emergency contact information to your driving record, for law enforcement purposes only, in the event one of your family members would need to be contacted regarding an emergency situation. Ohio will have a new driver license and state identification card design beginning with the release of our federally compliant "Safe ID" in January 2013. Safe ID is the name given to the State of Ohio's new driver licenses and state identification (ID) cards that are compliant with the federal Real ID Act of 2005, and can be accepted by the federal government for "official" purposes. "Official" purposes are defined by Federal Homeland Security as being accepted for boarding commercially operated airlines, and entering federal buildings (i.e. Social security Offices, federal court buildings, etc.) Ohio's federally compliant credential, "Safe ID", includes special security features, and requires additional facility security over the issuance process and issuance materials. The new design will allow for easy recognition of a Safe ID, and will be distinctly different in design, look, and feel from the traditional license. Is it the TRUTH? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
