What is "percent"?
Percent means "out of 100."
%
We can use the percent symbol (%) as a
handy way to write a fraction with a common
denominator of 100.
For example, instead of saying "8 out of
every 100 professional basketball players are
female," we can say "8% of professional
basketball players are female."

Real-World Application
A batting average is the ratio of hits to at bats. Batting averages are
expressed as a decimal rounded to the nearest thousandth. The table
shows the top four batting averages for the Bullard Panther baseball
team last season. Express the batting averages as a percent.

Remember that percent is just another
way of showing part of the whole.
100% is always the whole.
So for example- 75% said that they had
read a book in the last month. That
means that 25% had not read a book in
the last month. Remember 100 is the
whole. So, 100 - 75 = 25%.
Together 75 and 25 = 100.
Figure this one. If 80% of the people went
to a movie in the last month, what percent
did not go to a movie in the last month?
Yes, your right! 20%

And what if 70% of people ate breakfast,
what percent did not eat breakfast?
100%-70%= 30%
