Crocheted Border On A Fleece Scarf Materials: 9” x 54” piece of fleece material sport weight yarn size G crochet hook size 6 steel crochet hook sewing machine ruler scissors Gauge: not applicable Abbreviations: ch: chain sc: single crochet R(s): row(s) Rnd(s): round(s) Instructions: Preparation of the fleece: 1. Cut the fleece to the desired measurement. If the fleece is 54” wide and does not have a pattern that dictates cutting the material on the lengthwise of the grain, one yard can be cut into 4 pieces crosswise of the grain to get a scarf that measures approximately 9” x 54”. If the fleece has a pattern that needs to run up and down the finished scarf, you will need to buy 1-1/2 yards. You will be able to get 6 scarves measuring approximately 9” x 54”. 2. Run a line of stitching 1/4” from the edge all of the way around the fleece with the sewing machine and a large needle. A thread color that is a strong contrast to the fleece is good. This stitching does two things. It provides a guide line for the placement of your first row of single crochets. It also leaves a pilot hole to poke the crochet hook through. 3. Starting in the middle of one short end, stick the size 6 steel hook through one of the needle holes. Pull a loop of the yarn through the material and ch1. Move to another needle hole about 1/4” away and pull a loop through, yo and pull through both loops on the hook. Continue to work around the edge of the fleece, working 3 sc in the corners. Make your stitches as even as possible so that the edge doesn't pucker. Join to the beginning ch1. Repeat Rnd1 if desired. Fringe: 1. Count the number of stitches along each short edge, including the stitches at the corner. Cut one piece of yarn 24” long for each stitch. 2. Hold 2 pieces of yarn together and fold them in half. Pull the fold through one corner stitch. Pull the yarn ends through the fold. Tighten the fringe around the sc. Skip one sc and repeat adding the fringe along each short edge. 3. Trim the ends of the fringe. Lightly press your scarf if you want.
