Boat Float Rubric
Preparation
Design: 30 pts
The design of each boat is judged on creativity and
workmanship. In each of the sections the designs are
categorized as follows:
• Creativity: 10 pts
While creativity will be rewarded, it is important to
note that the most complicated designs are not
always the most creative. The teacher has sole
discretion as to how points are awarded in this
category.
Answer the following questions:
1. What is your group’s theme?
2. What is your group’s plan of action?
• Workmanship: 20 pts
The boat must be constructed only from allowed
materials. Some projects may be held together with
sticks and glue while other may look like expert
craftsmen put them together. The teacher has sole
discretion as to how points are awarded in this
category.
-
Who is going to navigate the boat?
-
Who will be responsible for what?
-
What materials will you need to build the boat
and whose going to bring them?
3. Using the paper provided by your teacher, build a model
of your boat. Remember that the real boat will be made
out of cardboard and is less flexible than the paper
used for the model.

The task is to build a boat that will float across the

completing a survey indicating the amount of
participation each member demonstrated. The
participation grade will be based on each group
member’s response to your involvement and contribution
to the group’s goal for the project and on the teacher’s
observations during class time.
