The Roosevelt Corollary meant Europe still must follow the Monroe Doctrine and, in addition to this, the
USA would use force, if necessary, to control interests in Latin America. Teddy Roosevelt said he would.
“Speak softly, but carry a big stick.” This meant he wanted peace, but was willing to use force in the
endeavors of the Monroe Doctrine and the Roosevelt Corollary.
