Apr. 26 Do You Really Want to Know?
Rev. Laura Shennum Cascade UU Fellowship, Wenatchee, WA
In Peter Mayer's song, “Do You Really Want to Know?”, he explores the intersection between
belief and knowledge to try to understand if both can exist at the same time. We will explore how
reason as a religious source has existed throughout history and how it has influenced what we
believe.

Special Collection for April

TODAY Special Collection for the Center for Justice
The Center for Justice was founded in 1999 by Jim Sheehan because, as he saw it, the
courts too often favored the strong while the powerless often could not afford
representation. The Center advocates for citizens in issues such as prisoners' rights,
reinstatement of drivers' licenses and restoring voting rights. The work of the Center
includes: Spokane Riverkeeper, to protect the health of our Spokane River and Smart
Justice which advocates for policy reform and creating a more fair, just and effective
regional criminal justice system. The Health and Justice Initiative assists healthcare
providers in using the law as a tool to lower costs and improve health. The Center for
Justice is also active in Police Accountability advocacy for the rights of citizens and
independent police oversight in our community.
Celebrate Earth Day at Tasty Tuesday on April 21
We will celebrate Earth Day remembering how we love
our Earth and considering how we care for it, in an
inspiring Intergenerational Worship Service on April 21.

include vegetarian and gluten-free options and be
offered on a sliding scale. Worship will begin at 6:30.
We still need set up and clean up people. Let Tracy Springberry know if you
can help by emailing [email protected] or texting her at (509)638-5316.

Camp happens Memorial Day weekend (May 23-25) at Camp Reed. It's summer
camp fun for all ages! Enjoy campfire sing-alongs, swimming, canoeing, workshops,
walks in nature, talks with friends and the much anticipated cardboard boat races.
Discounted Early Bird Registration takes place thru Friday, May 1. Late Registration
takes place Saturday, May 2-Sunday, May 17. Registration forms are available now.
Volunteers are needed to help make Camp Starwheel work. We need plenty of

General Assembly (GA) Portland, OR, June 24-28, 2015

What I Treasure About GA by Phyllis Thayer
 Observing youth in action: business meetings, youth worship services, social
justice actions and evening dances
 Being a delegate (which means attending the business meetings and voting on
bylaw changes, social action issues, etc.) and listening to fascinating “pros” and
“cons” of an issue presented by passionate UUs
 Singing in a room with 3 to 4000 other UUs
 Attending a multitude and varied bunch of workshops (something to match
every interest, passion and concern)
 Gender-neutral bathrooms
 Perfume-free zones
 Attending the Ware lecture - sort of the key-note speech for the week. Previous
speakers have been: Marian Wright Edelman, Norman Lear, Kurt Vonnegut,
Martin Luther King Jr, Julian Bond, Mary Oliver, Dr. Helen Caldicott and more
 The awesome Exhibit Hall with books, jewelry, clothes, food and the booths of
the many faceted UU interests
You can go from 7:30 am to midnight if you want, or choose to take a day off and tour
local sites. GA is so close to Spokane this year. See details online (UUA.org) or in our
SUUN. Don’t miss this chance to become a GA-junky like me! I’m going; are you?
Registration Scholarships Available for GA
Scholarships for the $350.00 registration for General Assembly in Portland, OR, June
25-29 are available. Recipients must serve as a voting delegate during the Plenary
Sessions and attend Social Justice workshops to report back to our community.
Interested please email Nancy Avery at [email protected] or Peggy Eklof
at [email protected] by April 15.

Homemade necklaces, earrings and bracelets by Sue Wotring of Bijou Beads, and
Susan Bachmeier of Bachscrafts are back on the crafts tables in Fellowship Hall today.
Sue crafts jewelry with glass beads, pearls and crystals, while Susan creates pieces with
polymer clay, wood and stones. The radiant still-life watercolors by artist Donald
Clegg hang throughout April. A portion of any art or crafts purchases is returned to
the church.
Pastoral Care Team

Need A Medical Companion?
The UU Pastoral Care Team offered training on February 7 to people in the
congregation about being a medical companion. As a matter of fact, quite a few
people volunteered to be medical companions to anyone in the congregation who
need someone to accompany them to a medical appointment. If you have a medical
appointment coming up and you have no one to accompany you, please contact Amy
Howard 443-2204, or any member of the Pastoral Care Team or any member of the
Pastoral Care Team. We can help connect you with a medical companion!

Doug Huigen, treasurer.
Missing Your Eye Glasses?
There are several pairs of glasses that have lost their owners
being cared for in the church office. If you think one of them
could be yours, please come to the office and see if we have a match.
FYI: The glasses have been in our custody for quite some time now.
If the glasses are not claimed by the middle of May, we will donate them
to the Lions Club Used Glasses Recycling program.
