Description
Visconti's snake leads to a legend reconstructing the military power of the family since
1300.
Ottone Visconti, the family patriarch, was a victorious military commander who won 7
victories on 7 enemies, all recalled by the 7 crowns he bore on his shield.
One day, in the Holy Land, he was fighting a strong Saracen warrior. The latter had a
crest portraying a winged dragon holding Jesus in his jaws. Once Ottone defeated the
warrior, he decided to use the enemy's crest by substituting the two figures with a
snake and a Saracen respectively.
The crest, symbolizing the family who created Grazzano Visconti borough, can be
found everywhere around the place: in wrought iron, carved in stone and painted.
