Happy Dog, Happy Family, Happy Vet Class Information Classes are at the Utah Dog Park (Airport Location), 1977 West North Temple, Salt Lake City, Wednesday nights at 7:45 p.m. All puppies/dogs are welcome once they have completed their puppy series of vaccinations (or titers) and have a negative fecal test. Vet care must be kept current during your participation in the class. Training will be a combination of play (with toys and with you!) and positively reinforced learning. Correction based training will not be used/allowed in these classes. Our main goal is to help you, your veterinarian and/or groomer build a positive relationship with your puppy/dog. Please bring to class: • • • • • • • Your puppy/dog on a flat buckle or limited slip collar (fabric, nylon or leather – no prong, choker, or electronic collars) or body harness with a 4 – 6 foot leash (nylon or leather – no chain, bungee, or retractable leashes). Please consider NOT feeding puppy/dog dinner before coming to class (or feed a very small dinner) – this will keep puppy/dog’s tummy settled and ready for class. Water and small water bowl Dog bed, mat, or rug (something easily transported and appropriately sized for your puppy – bath mats work great for this) Brush, comb, slicker, etc. appropriate for your puppy/dog Hand towel – we will use these to teach a chin rest behavior Lots of very small, very yummy treats – no dog food, no crunchy biscuits. Some of my favorites are Wellness Puppy Treats, Zuke’s Mini Naturals and Z-Filets, Natural Balance food rolls and soft treats, or homemade dog treats (please let me know if you would like any recipes). All treats should be no bigger than peasized (smaller if you have a small puppy/dog). It is best to have 2 – 3 different treats, cut up, and combined together to make a “puppy trail mix.” We will also be using peanut butter and squeeze cheese in this class; if you have something similar you would prefer to use (cream cheese, canned puppy/dog food, meat based baby food, etc.), please bring that in a Kong, a squeeze tube, or in a freezer ziplock bag with the corner snipped off. A treat pouch, hooded sweatshirt, fanny pack, carpenter apron, or something with big pockets to put your treats in while you are working with your • • • • • puppy/dog. Treat pouches are available from me, at big box pet supply stores, and online. Bags to clean up puppy piles. A favorite toy – preferably one you use just for class. A copy of your puppy/dog’s vaccinations and negative fecal exam (that we can keep). OPTIONAL – a child’s toy doctor kit OPTIONAL – an appropriately sized basket muzzle We look forward to working with you and your puppy/dog!!
