Dear friends,
Do you know younger adults are now suffering from diabetes, a disease that is traditional
associated with older people? This is a rising trend as noted by World Diabetes Foundation.
According to healthcare professionals, poor lifestyle and obesity are the two risk factors
causing diabetes among the youth today. Hence it is important for us to lead a healthy
lifestyle with good eating habits since young.
Start taking care of your health by watching your weight and diet today. In this issue, we
recommend you to adopt a healthy equation which comprises of diet and supplements
together with exercise checklist to help you manage your weight and fight against diabetes.
The Right Nutrition – Diet Check
The World Health Organization estimates that, by 2030, with increased life-expectancy,
695,000 Singaporeans will have diabetes – i.e. 1 in every 5 Singaporeans will have diabetes.
Prevention is better than cure. So, lower your risk today by losing the excess weight and try
adopting the following recommendations to keep your blood sugar in check:
Select low-glycemic foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
Low-glycemic foods can be digested slower by our body as compared to high-glycemic
foods. Hence, they raise our blood sugar slowly and steadily without working our pancreas
too hard. It also provides a longer feeling of being full to prevent us from over eating. Highglycemic foods, such as potatoes, white rice and white bread, enter our bloodstream rapidly
and cause blood sugar level to rise quickly. As a result, our pancreas work harder to produce
insulin in order to bring down our blood sugar level..
Say no to fast foods
Try to avoid fast foods as the fat and sugar levels are extremely high. But if you are unable
to shun away from patronage of fast food outlets, try opting for a healthier choice such as
apple dippers or salads.
Drink 8 glasses of water a day
As most of us know, drinking 8 glasses of water daily can remove harmful toxins from our
body. But do you know this simple action can also aid your weight loss effort, keep your skin
healthy and at the same time, lower our blood sugar levels.
Adding herbs to your cooking
Research has shown that taking ginseng after meals can help to reduce blood sugar levels
too. Other useful herbs that can also do the trick are cordyceps, onions and garlic. Hence,
try adding them into your cooking plan.
