DECEMBER 2013 BLAC K OSD PRINCIPAL’S CORNER December Holiday Meal Dec. 12th (Pre-order was required) Holiday Wish List Directory… Thank you to Michelle Mason and Jeanine Mindrup for putting together the student directory. Holiday Mart Dec. 7th 9am-1pm B U Z Z Construction for the new front entries, etc. is starting in December at some of the elementary schools. Black Bob is not scheduled for construction until May—after our students leave on the last day. This is the good news—whew! No traffic patterns to change and no new front entrances to be created. We will be doing some cleaning and some packing all next semester, as we prepare for the construction. Everything in the current Office, Nurse’s office, Workroom and Lounge will be packed and moved. That entire area will become 2 or 3 new spaces—as yet undetermined. Our Library will be completely packed and moved. We will be getting walls and new carpeting—it will be a total transformation! Our Students will be getting lockers in the wet areas so they each will have a place to keep their coats, backpacks, etc. Our classrooms will be getting doors—Hallelujah! This will increase our security measures as well as lessening the noise in the pod areas. We will be cancelling the Learning Fair in April. The 35th Birthday Celebration on Jan. 9, 2014 will take its place. I will be starting Construction Meetings with the architect in February— so stay tuned for more info! Enjoy the Winter Holiday activities with your families. Dr. Cook Holiday Lunch It has been a tradition of Black Bob to invite our staff to create Holiday Wish Lists. These include items that teachers and other staff members would otherwise purchase with their own money. If your child would like to present a gift to their teacher or a staff member, please consider this opportunity to select an item that will help support our staff. Gift giving to Black Bob staff is strictly voluntary. If your child want to participate, simply select a snowflake from the display in the front hall. If you have questions, please refer to the appropriate staff member. For further information, contact Tina Mowrey. B O B Nurse’s Notes: Black Bob has had its first confirmed case of Influenza. Symptoms of the flu are high fever, headaches, severe body aches and fatigue. The health room has been busy with sore throats, stomach aches, and head aches. Frequent hand washing is the best way to stop germs from spreading. Remind your children to cough into their elbow or into a tissue. Hearing Screenings will take place on December 12th. The grades to be screened are K,1, 2 and 5th grade. I am continuing to work on vision screening in Kindergarten. You will be notified if your student does not pass the vision screening. Vaccine requirement deadlines are fast approaching. January 7th is the exclusion date for those lacking required vaccinations or physical exams. Please turn those completed notices into the nurse as soon as possible. Exclusion notices will be sent in early December. Please remember to notify the office if your child is ill. Enjoy the holidays, Kristin Dillard Important Safety Tips for Parents As the days grow shorter and darker, now is an important time to remind your children about some general safety tips to make sure walks to and from school are safe and successful. Always walk home using the same route. Never stop at a friend’s home without telling your parents first. Walk straight home every day. Always be aware of your surroundings. Always walk on sidewalks and stay out of people’s yards and driveways. Try to walk home in groups of two or more. Do not become distracted by play, use of cell phones, etc. Do not talk with strangers. December in Spanish class….
