TOP 3 MATERIALS TO RECYCLE (AND WHY!) 1 Metal—Aluminum cans are 100% recyclable and can be recycled an infinite number of times. Converting recycled cans into new cans takes 95% less energy than producing new ones, and these “new” recycled cans can be back on store shelves within 60 days. 2 PET Plastic Bottles—Making plastic out of recycled resources uses two-thirds less energy than making new plastic out of raw materials. While Americans use roughly 50 billion plastic water bottles per year, the U.S.’s recycling rate for plastic is only 23%. This means that more than $1 billion worth of plastic is wasted each year. 3 Paper & Cardboard—Did you know the average office worker uses 10,000 sheets of copy paper each year! According to the EPA, paper makes up about one-third of all municipal solid waste in the US. The majority of this paper waste comes from the commercial sector, or the places where we work, so be sure to take your good recycling habits to work with you. +2:725(&<&/(%$77(5,(6 1.
