Polite Banner - Demo Test Page

Polite Banner
Polite Banner
A Polite Banner consists of a gif or Flash file that loads together with the page and then after the page
finishes loading, a heavier Flash asset loads and replaces the original light version. The heavier Flash
asset is used to allow the ad to be more interactive without violating the site’s in-page file size limitation for
standard rich media banner ads. A polite banner never leaves or expands out of the banner space that it
is served into.
The Polite Banner is built out of 2 Flash movies:
●
“Default Flash”: This is a standard Flash movie that is light in K-size. It is loaded like any Flash
banner, together with the page. Therefore, its size must conform to site specifications for a standard
banner. Within Eyeblaster, the size limit of the Default Flash is 30KB.
●
“Rich Flash”: This is a heavier Flash movie (up to 2.2MB) that loads politely – i.e., only after the
page has been fully loaded, the Rich Flash starts downloading. When it is fully loaded, it replaces
the Default Flash that is on the page.
Note: In addition to the Flash movies, create a fallback default image (.gif or .jpg) to be displayed to users
without Flash, or with an unsupported browser or platform. This image is uploaded into the
Eyeblaster Interface along with the Flash movies as the ad is being configured.
Creative Specifications
When designing a polite banner ad, the following guidelines must be followed:
●
You must use a .gif for the default banner.
●
You must use Flash 4 or higher.
●
The total file size must be less than 2.2MB.
●
The first frame of the Flash movie must be blank with no sound or animation.
●
For Flash 6 and higher, you must include a special Eyeblaster include file on the first frame to
ensure the ad is compliant with current Flash security features.
●
The suggested frame rate is 18 frames per second.
●
The suggested audio compression is MP3.
●
If there is a flashing (i.e., non-smooth) transition between the initial Flash asset and the heavier
Flash asset, place a still image in the last frame of the initial Flash asset.
For additional information, refer to the Creative Guidelines document.

Site Specifications
In addition to the Eyeblaster creative guidelines, site specifications include information about default
gif/Flash weight and audio requirements. All Eyeblaster enabled sites have their specifications defined
within the Eyeblaster Interface. You can access the Eyeblaster Interface at www.eyeblasterwiz.com.
Contact Eyeblaster support at [email protected] for a login. For each campaign, check the
specifications for the sites included in the buy before designing the creative.
Tracking and Interactions
Eyeblaster has enabled specific Flash FS-commands to enable interactions and tracking within the
Eyeblaster ad. The most common interactions in the polite banner format are for clickthroughs.
The command for a clickthrough is:
fscommand("ebInteraction","");
This command can have a defined argument to create multiple named interactions, for example:
fscommand("ebInteraction","Submit");
The command to replay the ad from the beginning is:
fscommand("ebReplay","");
The command to load the rich Flash as a result of user interaction is:
fscommand("ebLoadRichFlash","");
This command is used within the Default Flash, to start loading the Rich Flash upon a user interaction. For
example, the Default Flash might have an invitation for the user to click. You can use this command to
avoid waiting for the page to fully load before loading the Rich Flash, and instead immediately start
loading the Rich Flash upon being requested by the user. Do not trigger this command automatically by
the Flash, but always as a result of a user interaction.
If the Rich Flash has been configured in the Eyeblaster Interface not to begin playing automatically, the
command to trigger the rich Flash is:
fscommand("ebStartRichFlash","");
Ordinarily, the Rich Flash swaps out the Default Flash as soon as it is fully loaded and is ready to play.
However, there are cases where the Default Flash includes an animation that must not be stopped in the
middle (i.e., the designer would like the Default Flash creative to fully execute). In these cases, within the
Eyeblaster Interface, the ad can be configured not to display the Rich Flash automatically. Instead, you
use the ebStartRichFlash() FS-Command within the Default Flash to trigger the Rich Flash (only after the
Rich Flash has already downloaded and is ready to play). If the command is triggered before the Rich
Flash is fully loaded, the command is ignored. Therefore, create a loop within the Default Flash to trigger
the command repeatedly.
For a full list of Eyeblaster commands, refer to the FS-Commands glossary.
