‘Spend a penny’
This really is an easy-peasy way to raise money for WaterAid
this World Toilet Day.
Simply give a pound to WaterAid every time you use the loo on 19 November,
and encourage your friends and colleagues to do the same.
Every pound will help deliver safe toilets and clean water to people in the
world’s poorest communities. Now that’s what we call pennies well spent!

Your ‘Spend a penny’
step-by-step guide
Decide on your day – or maybe
even a whole week.
World Toilet Day, Thursday 19 November, is
probably the best day to do this – but check
schedules and make sure people will be
around the office. You could also do this with
your friends, housemates or community group.
Tell everybody it’s happening!
Use our handy poster template
(page 4) email your friends and colleagues, and
ask internal communications to support you.
On the day, share what you’re up to on social
media using the hastag #itsnojoke.
All funds raised have the chance to be
doubled through UK Aid Match – so make
sure everyone knows about it!
Get a collection box and tell
everybody where it is – you can
write it on our poster (page 4).

Ways to make your pennies go further:

Government!
Spread the word! Encourage your neighbours (work
or home) or your local pub to do their own Spend a
penny campaign.
If you use our special paying in form (page 6), your
donations will be doubled by the UK Government –
allowing us to help twice as many people.
Get people thinking about life
without a toilet to encourage
them to give a pound.
Last year, Affinity Water put
messages in their loos, sharing
some of the more ‘unusual’ things
people have used for toilet roll
over the years. Did you know, the
Ancient Greeks used stones and
pieces of clay (ouch!).
Once the money has come trickling in:
Add up your funny money and pay it in using
our paying in form (page 6).
Remember to thank everyone who got involved and
let them know how much was raised and doubled!
