Can we take this opportunity to remind parents about CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) to whom concerns can be reported: https://www.ceop.police.uk/Ceop-Report/ Parents can, of course, report immediate concerns regarding an adult befriending a child to the Police. Please do not hesitate to talk to a member of staff if you have any questions about online safety. AS mentioned in our last newsletter we are focusing on safety this half term and PCSO Williams from the Safer Schools Team will be leading a workshop in school about Cyber Crime and Internet Safety. He has offered to talk to parents about this subject and we strongly encourage you to come along and take part—further details to follow. School governors play a key role in the leadership of the federation and work together with staff to make sure that each school provides a challenging and supportive environment for its pupils. We currently have a vacancy on the governing body for a Parent Governor for Wilmcote School and I am now writing to invite you to put your name forward. Do not worry if you have no experience in education matters – the Governing Body includes a range of people, all with different skills to offer and contributions to make – and full training and support are available through induction training, a Governor Handbook and advice and mentoring from your colleagues on the Governing Body. The usual term of office is four years from the date of appointment. If you choose to, you can complete your term office even if your child has since left the school. Who is eligible? All parents and carers of registered pupils are eligible to become parent governors and every parent, whether or not you live with the pupil, is entitled to vote in a parent governor election. Someone who has parental responsibility or day-to-day care of a pupil is also eligible to serve and to vote. How are Parent Governors nominated and elected? If you would like to nominate someone or to put your name forward, you need to complete the nomination form provided and submit it either to the School Office or to the Clerk to the governors, Helen Yeomans (email [email protected]) by midday on Friday 27th January 2017. We can provide assistance and advice in completing the form where necessary. If more than two nominations are received, an election will be held and ballot papers for this will be sent to all parents and carers. On the following page, you will find a brief summary of the Governing Body’s key roles. If you would like to find out more, please contact Helen Yeomans by email or on 01789 292112.
