London + Paris
MAY 2015 — Trinity Western University Travel Studies
Experience the arts and their rich
history in two global epicentres.
To visit London and Paris is to step into two of the most culturally,
artistically, and historically rich and diverse cities in the world. In this
travel study, students encounter artistic creations from the famous
to the cutting edge, and are encouraged to consider interdisciplinary
connections among the arts. Students are also challenged to further
integrate Christian thought into their own aesthetic sensibilities, which
enables them to make informed judgments about artistic creations.
Experiencing the vibrant cultures of London and Paris, with their rich
history, and central place in the history of artistic creation, makes
this travel study an exciting opportunity. Trip highlights include visiting
cultural sites, attending world-class performances, and dynamic group
discussions about the arts.
Students may also explore the diverse offerings of London and Paris on
their own. Most of the study takes place in London and Paris proper,
but several day trips are also included. Past day trips have included
Versailles, Oxford, and Windsor.

INSTRUCTOR
SAMC 420 / IDIS 420
An interdisciplinary fine arts travel study that encourages
students to think about the divinely endowed gifts of human
creativity as expressed in arts, including visual arts, theatre
and music. On-site lectures/discussions, visits to art galleries
and museums, and attendance at a number of concerts
and plays challenges students to develop and deepen their
biblically-informed aesthetic on the role of the fine arts in both
illuminating and enriching their lives. Most course activities
will take place in London and Paris proper but day trips to
places such as Oxford and Versailles are also planned. Visits to
key cultural sites are also included to enhance the student’s
understanding of the cultural history of these cities. This
course is required by all who participate in the travel study.
MUSI 310 · Music and Culture
How does culture impact music? What effect does culture have
on the production, performance, and consumption of music? How
does music impact culture? What methodologies are used in a
cultural study of music? This course engages issues in the cultural

in and about different places (both cultural and physical), students
