VIDEO: BELIEFS IN CHRISTIANITY • Today’s video will explore the main beliefs of Christians • You will take notes on things like the years the religion started, holy books, prophet, and other important beliefs within this religion HISTORICAL INFLUENCE OF CHRISTIANITY IN EUROPE In the 600s, Spain and other parts of Europe were ruled by Muslim rulers who practiced Islam and there was a large Jewish population of Judaism followers as well- so what happened? HISTORICAL INFLUENCE OF CHRISTIANITY IN EUROPE The Christian rulers of Spain, starting in the late 1400s, ordered their armies to seek out nonChristians living in Spain. They were either forced to convert to Christianity OR were forced to move to other areas. Spanish Inquisition: 1400s-1600s CHRISTIANITY ACROSS EUROPE This map, showing religions in the 1600s across Europe, shows us that the Spanish Inquisition worked. NonChristians became a minority in Europe and Christianity is a major religion across Europe even today. Martin Luther, founder of the Lutheran section of Christianity, was a Protestant because he protested some of the beliefs of Catholics
