Check out our revamped site: www.smokyhillscf.org 1 Letter from the Board Chair A Year of Promise It has been an exciting year for the Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation (SHCF) and foundations all across the country as they celebrated 100 years of service to communities. SHCF is only 14 years in the making but the impact through grants of over $265,000 is helping to build a brighter place in Ellsworth County. This year, the Foundation held a match day, Match Madness, to help existing funds at SHCF raise dollars to support their endowments. The funds were then eligible for a matching cash grant from an $8000 match pool provided by the Foundation. The response was overwhelming and Match Madness raised a total of $51,653 for seven participating funds. These funds will support communities in Ellsworth County in various ways now and into the future. If you would like to make your community of Ellsworth, Holyrood, Kanopolis, Lorraine and Wilson shine brighter, think about supporting your community by starting a fund. Or support the community grant fund which gives grants once a year to applicants from around the county. Imagine the possibilities if everyone designated just 5% of their estates for the needs of their community. This is a great way to leave a legacy and all gifts are tax-deductible. Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation is building a bright future as the funds grow and grants continue to support Ellsworth County. “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” -Henry Ford Thank you for supporting the Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation. Sara Soukup Board Chair, Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation 2 2014 Annual Report 2013-2014 Donors The most important element in the Foundation is our donors because without them we would not exist. They are what keeps the Foundation strong and successful. Some gifts are small and some large, but when combined, they all work towards one common goal—building a brighter Ellsworth County. Since inception, SHCF has awarded over $265,000 in grants that support a broad range of charitable causes—some donor directed and some determined by our board of directors. It is the opportunity to make an impact that makes us feel blessed to be part of this organization. Smoky Hills Community Fund The Smoky Hills Community Fund is an unrestricted grant fund that provides the board of directors the flexibility to respond to the changing needs of the community. Grants from this fund are awarded through a competitive application process and support a wide variety of charitable causes and nonprofit organizations. Donations of any size to this fund will continue to make our area a brighter place to live. Funding for this grant program comes from donations, memorials, and other gifts to the Smoky Hills Charitable Foundation. Gifts of any size are welcome additions to this important community grant fund and will help earn a 50% match from the Kansas Health Foundation’s GROW II matching grant program.
