Lemonade Stand Form_2017.indd - University of Nebraska at Kearney

Dear KCLC Parent,
This summer, your child has the opportunity to take part in a fun, interactive event in Kearney, NE. As part of
their learning program at KCLC, they will learn about small business concepts like counting change, selling to
customers, making a product, marketing a business and much more. These lessons will happen in the mornings at KCLC the week of June 12th. The short hands-on classes will be taught by the entrepreneurship professionals at UNK’s Center for Rural Research and Development.
The second part of this program is on Thursday evening in Downtown Kearney during the 24th Street Night
Market. Each student will have the opportunity to set up a Lemonade Stand and sell lemonade to customers
from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. This is a great opportunity for each student to put the small business skills they learned
into action. This event is optional and will require the involvement of a parent, guardian or another adult mentor.
Each student participating will be required to donate 10% of their proceeds to a non-profit charity of their
choice. The rest of the money is theirs to keep. This is an effective way to teach children about counting money, making change and to understand cost and profit. The team at UNK will provide the cups, ice and posters
for signs. The adult sponsors (parent or guardian) will be responsible for providing the lemonade, table for the
stand, small cooler for ice and the drink dispenser/container (i.e., pitcher, cooler). Your student will need to
have change available for transactions. We suggest about $20.00 in quarters and dollars.
Participating students will have the opportunity to uniquely name their lemonade stand and decorate it how
they would like to give them the competitive edge. They can also offer additional “up-sell” items to their lemonade offering to help them sell more. You are welcome to help them as they set up, decorate and get their
materials ready. However, we do ask that only the kids are the ones doing the selling. We want the adult to just
observe and be there to help when needed. There will also be some UNK students from the ENACTUS club on
site to assist with various tasks if needed.
If you would like to have your child participate in the Lemonade Stand activity on Thursday, June 15th, please
read the information below and complete the form on the front with their information. We ask that you arrive
at 5:45 pm and meet at the Northwest corner of 24th Street and 1st Avenue. You will receive your assigned
spot and have a few minutes to set up.
We have also created an event for this on Facebook; https://www.facebook.com/UNKCRRD/. Please feel free
to like our page and then share this event on your page with your friends to let them know your child would like
their support at their Lemonade Stand!
