Most plants, including many trees, grow some kind of flower. Soil is a mixture of bits of rock and organic material. Organic material is the remains of living things that have died. Photosynthesis is the process in which green plants use sunlight to make their own food. Without sunlight there would be no green plants, and without green plants there would be no animals. They hold the plant in the ground and keep it upright. They take water and food from the soil. They also store food for the plant. The stem is the main trunk of the plant. They can be very thick or very thin! Buds and shoot develop along the stem of a plant. Leaves produce food for the plant through a process called photosynthesis. The leaves of different plants vary widely in size, shape, and colour. Berries are small, fleshy fruit that usually have many seeds. People and animals eat many types of berries. Vegetables are the leaves, stems or roots of certain plants that people eat. Vegetables usually come from herbaceous plants. Herbaceous plants have stems that are softer than the woody stems of bushes and trees. Its insides are often sweet and juicy. But some fruits, including nuts, are dry. Fruits develop from a plant's flowers. Pollen is the thing that causes plants to form seeds.
