Dear friend:
For 19 years, Community Alliance Against Family Abuse (CAAFA) has provided vital services for domestic
violence survivors in our community. In 2013, we officially began serving sexual violence survivors also. We
support our participants with crisis shelter, legal advocacy, support groups, one-on-one Empowerment
Sessions, and much more. The individuals and families we serve represent all genders, cultures,
socioeconomic statuses, education levels, and ages. Our talented and dedicated staff work diligently to
deliver effective, trauma-informed care to meet each of our participants’ individual needs.
CAAFA helps individuals like Eleanor:
Eleanor first contacted CAAFA's Empowerment Guide, and soon began Empowerment Sessions. Soon, she
gained the courage to leave her husband after 30 years of marriage and nearly as many years of abuse. Eleanor felt
guilty for leaving her son and husband. She felt afraid that at the age of 60, she was starting over. In the
beginning, Eleanor found it very difficult to trust people. Given time and space, Eleanor continued her one-on-one
sessions and shared her story. Eventually, she sought shelter, and learned about the dynamics of domestic violence.
In a letter to CAAFA she wrote, “You have helped me see clearly what I need to do to start a new life for myself,
free from violence and emotional abuse.” With her newfound self-love, trust, and confidence, she began looking for
work. Her courageous efforts and dedication to live a life free from abuse paid off when she moved into an
apartment of her own. Upon leaving CAAFA's shelter she wrote, “I am not afraid. I feel safe. I have been blessed
with a haven to work through the most troubling and vulnerable times of my life. Thank you for all that you do.”
Your contribution will help ensure that CAAFA’s vital services are available for people like Eleanor, and
hundreds of others in need of support each year.
On Saturday, November 4, 2017, CAAFA will present the Giddy Up Gala at Rockin’ R Ranch, 6136 E.
Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ. The evening will include a cowboy dance, live band, BBQ meal, drinks, silent
auction, 50/50 raffle, costume contest, and more! The Giddy Up Gala is our opportunity to raise awareness
about domestic and sexual violence, inspire our community to support this important cause, and recognize
all that we have achieved together over the past 19 years.
We invite you to help us continue our mission of empowering individuals, families and communities to be
free from abuse by becoming a sponsor and/or donating items for our silent auction.
Thank you for your supporting vital services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence!
Sincerely,
Dorian Townsend, PhD
