This indicates, in financial terms, how much a country earns. Human Development Index (HDI): An indicator to measure human development in a country. Less economically developed country (LEDC): Developing countries like India and Kenya. More economically developed country (MEDC): Developed countries like Japan and France. Colonialism: When a powerful nation controls the politics and economy of another country. Good governance: When a government runs the country honestly and with transparency and accountability. Subsistence economy: When people produce products (crops) for their own use/ consumption. Commercial economy: When products are produced on a large scale by a country and sold commercially to another country. Boycott: When a country refuses commercial relations with another country, i.e. they refuse to buy from or sell to them. Sanctions: When a country has a penalty imposed on them because of their policies. (Twenty years ago South African had little trade because of its Apartheid policy and other countries imposed sanctions on it).
