BUSINESS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES Nil Page | 1 Minutes – 29TH Annual General Meeting Friday, 4 March 2016 6. Report from Golf Queensland Representative – Mr Peter Castrisos Peter Castrisos presented the following report on behalf of Golf Queensland: 7. Congratulations to Margaret and her team for another successful year, congratulations to Judy Shelton for stepping up to the position of BDLGA President. The increase in 2017 Capitation Fees was discussed at the last Council Meeting. This increase is due to the development of the club support development program to help clubs (David Webber). David has so far saved 2 golf clubs who were about to close their doors. The increase in capitation fees will go towards ensuring this program can continue. Peter encouraged everyone to visit the Golf Queensland website to see what Golf Queensland can help clubs with under this program. Why do we pay capitation fees? Each person contributes approximately 95-98c/week towards golf: administration of district by paying capitation fees which covers: administration of Golf Qld; administration of Golf Australia; the handicap system; insurance; Golf Qld development programs. As of 1st January 2016 the Greg Norman Junior Golf Foundation is now called Junior Golf Queensland and is run by Golf Qld staff. Ray Clarke is working part time now for Golf Qld to assist with the transition. In the long term junior golf will benefit greatly from the change. Golf Qld will now employ junior golf development officers throughout Queensland to promote and encourage junior golf. Juniors – Golf Qld introduced 15,000 school children to golf in 2015, in the hope that they will be encouraged to take up the game. 80 clubs are registered with the MiGolf program. Pee Wee Pennants has been introduced this year and Golf Australia is now interested in introducing a national Pee Wee program. Isuzu Open corporate day today is being held to acknowledge sponsors of the Queensland Open which is returning to Brisbane Golf Club in 2016. No capitation fees go towards this event, it is covered by sponsorship only. Channel 9 has assisted with last year’s event which has helped with exposure of golf in Queensland. 50% population are women, only 25% women play golf. Golf Qld is trying to introduce golf to women through the Ladies Let’s Golf program. Information on this program is on the Golf Qld website. In the next 12 months Golf Qld is focusing on junior golf and ladies golf. In the process of trading off the facility at Brookwater and an offer has been accepted. That money will be able to be invested more wisely once the facility is sold. A Qld Golf Foundation is being established to raise money (donations will be tax deductible). Charlie Earp has been appointed as the first Patron. It is hoped that Charlie’s contacts will go towards giving something back to golf in Queensland. Golf Qld will be establishing a relationship with successful players such as Cameron Smith in the hope that they will give back to golf in Queensland. Some juniors were so inexperienced they could not walk the course. Should there be an age limitation? Judy explained that the teams with the very young inexperienced juniors in pennant teams have been approached. The BDLGA will look at lowering the GA handicap for juniors in the future. Margaret Bennett (Redland Bay). Congratulations to the BDLGA committee and Margaret on her retirement from the committee. Pennant divisions for this year –Redland Bay have 13 players in the range of 18 – 23 who will not get a game because of the way the new divisions have been structured. The new information was not available when the clubs were asked to submit teams. Consequently Redland Bay have quite a few ladies who will not make a pennant team this year. Judy explained that this will be discussed further during the Pennant Workshop later today. Anne Hardie (Ashgrove). Thanked the BDLGA committee for giving Anne the opportunity play in the Brisbane Invitational Pro-am this week by winning the pro-am draw. Collette Byrne (McLeod).
