Happy Birthday to Us Sale!
It’s our birthday!!!! Yarns at the Adobe turns 3 years old this month, and to celebrate, we’ll be having a sale on
Saturday, October 17th. As a thank-you to all of you wonderful and supportive patrons, everything in the store
will be 25% off. Come join us for a day of camaraderie and celebration!
Art After Dark
The shops on Chorro Hill will have extended hours for Art After Dark each month. This
month, on October 2nd, Growing Grounds will be showcasing art from Transitions/ Mental
Health Agency on the patio behind the yarn shop. One piece on display will be this fish
painting by Steven Skelley. Yarn of the Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and all of our pink yarn will be 15% off for the
month, and 25% of sales will be donated to breast cancer research charities. In addition,
Lorna’s Laces donates 20% of its proceeds on their Shepherd Sock in the colorway Flamingo
Stripe to breast cancer charities. We’ll have this yarn in soon! We also have a pink tree scarf
community project going all month long – come in and knit a few rows! At the end of the
month, we’ll wrap it around the tree in front of the shop to honor Breast Cancer Awareness.
New Additions!
• Addi circular needles now come in 8” lengths for socks! Available now in size 2, size 3s are coming soon.
• Brown Sheep Yarns have been added! We now carry many colors of Lamb’s Pride Worsted and
Lamb’s Pride Bulky. This is a great workhorse yarn for just about any project. It’s 50% wool and 50%
mohair, which also felts beautifully. One more cool thing about Brown Sheep – the yarn is made in the
USA from wool that’s grown in the USA.
• Made in Brooklyn is here! It’s the new pattern book from Jared Flood of
Brooklyn Tweed fame. It’s full of wearable contemporary yet classic
designs, and the projects span the range from hats to sweaters. And in order
to support the book with the suggested yarns….
• Classic Elite Yarns have also been added! We have Aspen, a soft and bulky
50% alpaca/50% wool singles yarn, and Lush, a soft 50% angora rabbit and
50% wool worsted 3-ply yarn. Other yarns coming soon are Fresco, Giselle,
and Silky Alpaca Lace. Fresco is a sport-weight 60% wool, 30% alpaca, and

October Project – Handwarmers – This is a quick-to-knit project that makes great Christmas gifts! Learn a
faux cable and how to use double-pointed needles.
Saturday, October 24th, 10AM-12PM, $35, taught by Lorraine Berg
Beginning Crochet – Why learn crochet? Well, if you’re like me and you always start on things at the last
minute, crochet is a fast and quick way to whip up a project! And if you’re drowning in your yarn stash, it’s
also a good way to burn through some skeins since it takes more yarn than knitting. There are also some
great designers making very modern & shapely clothes - don’t miss out on that awesome beanie or lacey
shawl or shapely sweater! We’ll be learning by doing two stitch samplers – one back-and-forth and one in
the round. Then you’ll be ready for our free crocheted Block of the Month crochet-a-long! (see below)
Thursday, October 29th, 6:30-8:30PM, $35, taught by Carrie Sundra
October Technique - Short Row Scarf – Short rows are a great technique to add to your repertoire! They
are used in many patterns for shaping, and they can also be great design elements that highlight changing
colorways. We’ll be learning short rows by making a basic scarf. Halloween goodies will be provided!
Saturday, October 31st, 10AM-12PM, $35, taught by Bonni Raine
Fiber Fabric, a Yarn Art class – It’s magic! Create a piece of art fabric from your favorite yarns by using a
special technique with paper that melts away! It can be used for fun and creative embellishments.
Saturday, November 21st, 9AM-11AM, $35, taught by Anne Gough
Block of the Month –now in Crochet!
We’re adding a new Block of the Month Club with crocheted blocks! This will be a free crochet-a-long, both for
new and experienced crocheters, and it won’t be a bunch of 1970’s style granny squares, I promise! Some will be
solid, some will have sunburst motifs, flower motifs, stripes, etc! If you’re new to crochet, we’ll be offering a
Beginning Crochet Class the week before (see above). The blocks will start on November 5th and will be from
the book 200 Crocheted Blocks by Jan Eaton. You can bring your own copy or pick one up at the store (we will not
be providing handouts). It’s a fabulous book that not only has 200 great motifs, but also ideas for color
coordinating, pattern coordinating, and basic crochet stitches and techniques. It’s definitely a must-have for any
crocheter! We’ll meet on the first Thursday of each month between 6:30 and 8:30PM, as part of the Thursday
Night Hookers group. You can make as many or as few as you’d like, depending on the end project you’d like to
make. Blocks are very versatile and can be used in blankets, jackets, scarves, skirts, and hats! Call the shop to
sign up!
Our knitted cables Block of the Month club is still going strong – the next block pattern will be released on
November 7th at 10AM.
Mama Bear Project
Join us on Fridays at 10AM to knit clothing and bears for charity! All items will be donated to the Friends of
Prado Day Center for the Homeless.
