BAMC Guide for Your
SENSILASE
Thank you for choosing Bay Area Medical Center for your SensiLase procedure.
Your doctor has scheduled you for a SensiLase procedure at Bay Area Medical Center.
Your appointment is scheduled for: Date
Time
Please come to the Main entrance (revolving door) of the hospital and go to the Registration Desk to check in.
䡲 What is SensiLase system?
SensiLase is a screening tool to check for circulation
problems in your arms and legs. Some patients with
ulcers have poor circulation and may have inadequate
blood supply to the toes, feet, legs or hands.
SensiLase can help to predict the likely healing
potential of wounds. The system has the ability to
measure the health of small vessels and produce a
graphic display of the blood flow.
䡲 Is SensiLase safe?
Yes. SensiLase is a test that is a simple, noninvasive
process of applying a blood pressure cuff on your arms
and ankles. With controlled pressure and release, an
invisible laser detects the quality of circulation.
䡲 What should I do before coming in for my
SensiLase?
Please bring a list of all medications and dosages you
are taking. You will be asked about recent use of
tobacco, caffeine, alcohol; recent heavy activity, and
presence of pain. Avoid heavy exercise for an hour
prior to the test and caffeine or decaffeinated products
for 4 hours before the test. This includes coffee, tea,
chocolate, and all sodas (even caffeine free and sugar
free) and any over the counter medications (such as
Excedrin, Anacin, and Midol). You do not need to fast.
Wear comfortable, loose clothing – you will have your
blood pressure taken on your arms and ankles.
䡲 How long will the procedure take?
In order to allow enough time for registration
procedures, please be at the Outpatient Registration
desk 15 minutes prior to your appointment. The
procedure may take 30-60 minutes from when you
arrive at Bay Area Medical Center. After registration is
complete, you will be directed to the Wound Clinic,
where the procedure will be performed.
䡲 What will happen during my procedure?
You will lay down on an examination table. The
technician will ask you to remain still and quiet. Your
blood pressure will be taken on both arms. Your blood
pressure may also be taken on one or both ankles.
䡲 How do I find out the results?
The ordering provider will contact you with the
SensiLase testing results after the test is interpreted by
a physician in the Heart and Vascular Center. This may
take up to one week.
䡲 How will I be billed for this?
Please bring your insurance card and referral/authorization form (if necessary) on the day of your
appointment.
Some insurance carriers require pre-certification for
certain procedures. Failure to get pre-certification may
result in a delay in getting your SensiLase procedure.
All charges, including those from BAMC and from the
doctors who read your results will be submitted to your
insurance carrier.
For information on financial counseling or payment
questions, call 715-735-8012.
