Arcadia High School 1959-2017 April 2017 Dear Parents of Graduating Seniors, The 2016-2017 school year is quickly coming to a close which brings numerous end-of-year activities. This letter is to provide you with all of the information you need to enjoy your student’s graduation from Arcadia High School. Included is all the information regarding Arcadia’s Commencement Ceremony, expectations surrounding the Commencement Ceremony, and important reminders regarding dates and times of senior activities. There is no special meeting for parents regarding graduation; however, we are meeting with all senior students on Friday, April 28th. If you have any questions regarding graduation please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Haley Boynton (480-484-6337), Educational Services Assistant or Mr. John Andrews (480-484-6303), Assistant Principal for Educational Services. THE COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY The Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2017 is on Thursday, May 25th at 8:00 p.m. on Arcadia’s football field. Guests should be seated in the stands prior to the processional, which will begin promptly at 8:00 p.m. Graduating students will be issued four tickets, (two rain and two general admission) free of charge. Each additional ticket will cost $10.00 and can be purchased in the bookstore. Be sure to safeguard the “rain tickets.” In the event of rain and/or inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the auditorium and only the “rain tickets” will be granted admission to the ceremony. Since our stadium may not have enough seats to accommodate all families, we need to employ an equitable protocol for students and families to obtain admission tickets based on a fair distribution process. Additional commencement tickets will be available for sale beginning May 19th, 2017. Students will then be able to purchase four (4) additional tickets each day until the bookstore sells all tickets. We feel this is the best way to ensure all students have an equal opportunity for purchasing additional tickets. ***Prior to purchasing tickets, students need to make sure all bookstore and library obligations are paid in full*** In order to accommodate our guests who require special handicap seating please contact Haley Boynton to arrange for an assigned seating area. In past years, we have been able to accommodate all ticket requests and will strive to continue this goal. EXPECTATIONS FOR COMMENCEMENT Students are to report to their assigned rooms by 7:00 p.m. Where they will receive instructions for the event. We are asking our students to dress appropriately for the Commencement Ceremony. Acceptable attire is as follows: Males: Shirt, dress pants, shoes and socks (tie if desired) Females: Dress, skirt and blouse or dress pants Students are not allowed to alter their caps or gowns in any manner. Students are also not allowed to bring any items onto the field during the Commencement Ceremony. Any items brought onto the field will be confiscated. SUSD policies are in effect that evening and all students are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and dignified manner consistent with the Arcadia Learning Community Commitment. Parking on graduation night brings an increased traffic flow to our parking lots. Therefore, we suggest that you give yourself and your family plenty of time before the ceremony to arrive, park, and obtain your seats before the start of the ceremony (gates will open at 6:30 p.m.). Since parking is limited at Arcadia, carpooling is strongly suggested. 4703 East Indian School Road Phoenix, Arizona. 85018 Main 480-484-6300 Fax 480-484-6301 The following items will not be permitted into the stadium for the Commencement Ceremony due to the disruptive nature to others in the audience: *Signs, horns, balloons, other audio enhancing devices (megaphones, etc.) *Security or police will confiscate items For safety reasons, we request that parents and guests remain off the track and field prior to and during the reading of all of our graduates’ names.
