Gabby Madraso
WELCOME
Dear Friends,
Welcome everyone to our 2016 Miss Reno Rodeo Pageant! Each of the young ladies competing for Miss Reno
Rodeo has embarked on a journey that will make an impression on them for the rest of their lives. No job interview
will ever seem as intimidating, presenting in public will no
longer frighten them, standing in one place and smiling for
hours will become second nature. And in the end, though
only one will wear the crown, they will all be better, richer,
and more well-rounded for having competed.
Each of you should be applauded for supporting them
on this journey, whether through a sponsorship or as their
friends and family, it would not be possible without you.
I look forward to meeting and making new friends during this year’s pageant and to watch each young lady learn
a little something new about herself, to push herself just
past that comfort level and grow and an individual as the
pageant progresses.
The committee that stands behind these beautiful young
ladies is amazing and I am so honored to work with each
and every member. None of this would be possible without their hard work. I am very proud to be associated with
a great organization like the Reno Rodeo Association and
wish to congratulate all the contestants on their participation.
Good Luck!!!

Miss Reno Rodeo Chairman

“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.” A simple line
yet, I am changed. Over the past year, I have changed more than I have
in my entire life. I have gone through many challenges as well as great
times. I pursued becoming Miss Reno Rodeo because I am passionate
about this amazing way of life. I have more hours on a horse than off and
I truly wanted to become a role model and someone who could educate
and promote this Western way of life. I have been raised in Northern
Nevada with horses and rodeo being part of my daily life and I am proud
to continue on this legacy. I lost my best friend and daddy this year and
I know that he is looking down and extremely proud of his little girl for
rising above this challenge and becoming a stronger cowgirl. I also know
that my entire hometown Hawthorne, Nevada is so proud of their little
cowgirl. Becoming Miss Reno Rodeo has been the greatest accomplishment I have ever been blessed with and I am so thankful for this amazing
second family I have been welcomed into over the last year. I will forever
be a part of the Reno Rodeo family.
I also want to say thank you to everyone who supported me through
this journey. I have been so blessed with open arms and so many people
willing to go beyond expectations to help make my dreams come true.
Tonya Champa and Cyndie Heinrich, I couldn’t have done this without
you! Thank you for being there at all hours for helping and listening to
me. DeeAnna and Michelle Pasquale you guys literally started this whole
idea and I’m so thankful for your help, I can’t wait to see DeeAnna with
the crown on her head. As for Gabby and Claudia Watkins—you guys are
such a blessing and I’m so thankful for your help along with Amy’s! I also
want to thank my amazing traveling crew—Jim Lindsey, Steve Edgar,
and Jenny Lesieutre. Never a dull moment traveling with you guys! Don
Cose thank you for being there to listen and open you door to me when
I was in need. I would also like to thank an amazing family friend who
helped me when I was in need—thank you Wayne Lund. Above all, Reno
Rodeo in general and all the amazing people I have met, thank you for
believing in me and supporting me throughout my journey—without all
of you this would have never been possible.
This is my time to shine in and out of the arena. I am so excited that
I have the privilege of riding and representing the 96th Reno Rodeo as
their queen. I also get to be the first ever Miss Reno Rodeo to rope in the
All Girl’s Invitational Team Roping during the ten days of Reno Rodeo.
Here’s to an amazing year and not being afraid of change.
Love, Your Miss Reno Rodeo 2015, Gabriella Madraso

Cari Carlson
Appearance Award
Cari Carlson attended the University
of Nevada, Reno to major in Agricultural
Education. She then returned to Tucson,
Arizona where she finished up her
degree to be a Vocational Agriculture
teacher and at the same time completed
a degree in Agricultural Business. After completing her Agricultural degrees she moved to Yuma,
Arizona in the early 1980’s to work in a local school and there is
where she earned the title of Miss Yuma Rodeo. She extensively
traveled throughout the West presiding as the rodeo queen and
then became a great promoter to young girls to become a rodeo
queen themselves. Over twenty years of Cari’s life was dedicated
to mentoring the aspiring rodeo queens of Junior Rodeo, High
School Rodeo and Professional Rodeo.
Cari then moved back to Tucson and went into banking. She
worked in banking for a few years as a loan officer. During that
era she continued her involvement in precision drill team on
horseback. In the 1990’s Cari lived in Elko Nevada where she
worked in the mining industry as an office manager and financial
officer. She continued her passion with horses by barrel racing. She then relocated to Reno, Nevada where she completed
her graduate degree in Education with a specialty in reading
instruction. Cari was a superb instructor. She taught in the
Washoe County school district at all grade levels for the next
decade and was in high demand as a tutor in mathematics and
reading comprehension. Cari was very passionate and instrumental in bringing the
Christian Women’s Barrel Racing Association and Dixie Pring
Clinics to Reno, Nevada. Cari loved rodeo and the cowboy way
of life. Her dedication to Christ was unwavering throughout
her entire life. She truly epitomized the Christian spirit as she
was always happy and grateful for life and the things that God
gave her. We were all blessed to have had her in our life. The
friendships that Cari created throughout her 50 years of life will
forever be cherished! There is no doubt that she is now in heaven
with God and at peace looking over all of us. I am so very thankful for
the many people that have
helped me to prepare me for
the Miss Reno Rodeo Pageant. This opportunity has
been a real growing experience and I would like to
thank all those who have
helped me along the way. A
huge thank you to my family
for believing in me and supporting me in everything that I
do. I would not be who I am or where I am without you!
Thank You,
I would like to thank my
mother, for always loving
and supporting me. You
deserve the “Most patience
of the year” award. You are
the best mother in the world,
and you are my best friend.
I love you forever, like you
for always. I would also like
to thank my Aunt Joy and
Cousin Kaili, for helping me with this pageant and always
being generous and kind. My thanks go out to Cyndie, for
her words of wisdom and her dedication. Thank you to everyone else who offered advice and counsel.
