What is the annual price increase?
Owner/tenant responsibility
The annual price increase approved by the Essential Services
Commission for Barwon Water for 2010/2011 is 10.09% per
year including CPI of 2.89%.
Owner-occupiers are responsible for all charges. If you are a
tenant and your dwelling is separately metered, you are only
responsible for water volume.
When will prices increase?
In the Barwon region, landlords are generally responsible for
water service charges, water volume charges at properties not
individually metered, and sewerage service charges.
The new water and sewerage prices will come into effect on
1 July 2010.
Why are prices increasing?
The new pricing will fund new water solutions, which are
designed to ensure supply security until 2055. We will invest
more than $766 million in new and replacement infrastructure
over the next five years. This will ensure we have safe, reliable
water supplies to accommodate future growth and
development in one of the fastest growing areas of Victoria.
How will the price increases affect you?
How will Barwon Water assist customers dealing with
the price increase?
Barwon Water has a Hardship Policy providing assistance and
information to customers who may be experiencing difficulty in
paying their Barwon Water bill. This provides various payment
alternatives including deferred payment. Further details can
be found on www.barwonwater.vic.gov.au or by calling 1300
656 007. In addition, Barwon Water will continue to introduce
targeted programs to assist customers to reduce their water
consumption.
To work out how you will be affected by the price changes,
follow the formula in the table (below) to estimate your
household bill. The following items are included on a
household bill:

ater service charge – fixed charge per customer for the
provision of water services to a property.
• W
aterWise program – water audit and replacement
program which is a joint initiative between Barwon Water and
the Department of Human Services.
• w
ater volume price – calculated per kilolitre based on the
volume of water consumed by the household.
• s
ewerage service charge – fixed price per customer for
providing sewerage services to a property.
• W
aterSecure Home program – an indoor retrofit
program, where qualified plumbers will install water-efficient
appliances, such as showerheads and tap-flow regulators.
