2017 LEMONADE
FOR LITTLES
Are you looking for an exciting way to instill an entrepreneurial spirit in your kids while also
teaching them the value of helping others? Get your kids involved in a worthwhile cause and
join us for Lemonade for Littles.
Running a stand is easy, inexpensive and fun—plus it’s something you can do as a family! We’ve
put together some tried-and-true tips to make your Lemonade for Littles stand a success, both
for your favorite entrepreneurs-in-training and for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
WHAT YOU NEED
Lemonade, of course! You’ll also need a table and a brightly colored tablecloth to place over it.
A money jar is essential, and you’ll need a safe place to keep it. Have plenty of pitchers or a large
dispenser with a tap (much easier for little hands than pouring). Make sure to have plenty of ice
and a cooler to store the ice in. Other essentials are napkins, paper or plastic cups, a trashcan
and comfy chairs. It’s hot out there, so make sure you have a hat, sunglasses and plenty of
sunscreen for everyone, too!
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
Set up shop in a location with lots of foot traffic. Think about a park, in front of a grocery store
(ask for permission first) or a busy sidewalk. If possible, coincide your Lemonade for Littles stand
with a special event like a community yard sale or farmers’ market. Make sure to let your friends,
family and neighbors know about the stand in advance.
MONEY IS NO OBJECT
But price is something people can object to! Keep yours reasonable (no more than a dollar a cup,
or ask for a donation of their choice), and make sure each customer knows the money is going to
Big Brothers Big Sisters. Be sure to remind them that they can simply donate through you, too.
PRESENTATION IS EVERYTHING
We’ve provided lemonade stand signs, flyers and other downloadable resources in this online
toolkit. Make sure you have a few of the signs printed at your local print shop and on display.
Keep your table clean, organized and inviting so people will want to stop by.
VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE
Sure, it’s called a lemonade stand, but that doesn’t mean lemonade is all you can sell! Maybe
pink lemonade would be a big seller for you. Or add some club soda and sell sparkling lemonade!
Store-bought or homemade cookies, brownies or muffins make great additions. Iced tea and
bottled water are other great options. Be sure to know what ingredients are in all your items in
case customers ask. Here are a few of our favorite recipes:

FAVORITE FAST MICROWAVE LEMONADE
1¾ cups white sugar
8 cups water
1½ cups lemon juice
Heat water and sugar for 2 minutes in the microwave. Stir to dissolve sugar. Stir in lemon
juice. Pour over ice and serve. Makes 20 small servings.
SUMMER STRAWBERRY LEMONADE
2 cups sugar
2 cups chopped strawberries
2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 10 large lemons)
¼ teaspoon salt
Make lemon syrup: Bring 1½ cups of sugar and 1½ cups water to a boil in a medium
saucepan, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
Make strawberry syrup: Let strawberries and the remaining ½ cup sugar sit in a bowl at room
temperature for about 45 minutes.
Make the lemonade: Combine the lemon juice, lemon syrup, salt and 2 cups cold water
in a pitcher.
Add 1 tablespoon of the strawberry mixture and some of the chopped strawberries into a tall
glass. Add ice to the glass, then top with lemonade. Serves 20.
LEMON-LIME SURPRISE LEMONADE
5 lemons
5 limes
5 oranges
3 quarts water
2 cups sugar
Squeeze juice from citrus fruit into pitcher, straining for seeds and pulp. Mix in water and
sugar. Serve over ice. Yields 1 gallon.
FIZZY LEMONADE
2 cups water
1 cup honey
2 cups club soda
1 cup lemon juice
Bring water and honey to a boil, then allow to cool. Pour syrup into pitcher,
then add soda and lemon juice. Serve over ice. Serves 5.

HAPPY SERVICE
Serve your lemonade with a side order of smiles! Be friendly and remember to thank each
customer for helping out such a worthy cause.
THE SANITATION DEPARTMENT
Keep long hair tied back, use tongs or a scooper to handle ice, have plenty of napkins and hand
sanitizer on hand, and cover the top of your pitcher with a plate or napkin when not serving.
SAFETY FIRST
Always make sure there is at least one parent/guardian at the stand with the kids at all times.
