Summer News
Dare Valley Pony Club and its members enjoyed a fun summer with a variety of events and activities. Rallies were held
on the pony club field when the weather allowed, members
were able to practice their showing at our fun show in May,
we held a great jumping show at Vaynor on the day after the
show in the beginning of August and a day camp at the end of
the summer. Two of our members competed in area competitions and one of them even made it to the Pony Club
Championships! (see page 2)
We hope you are all planning to come to our
Combined Training Day on Saturday, September 5th at Gurnos Farm—see our website
for more details.

Summer Day Camp
Members had a fantastic day at our camp at The
Ffrwd at the end of August. The sun came out
and shone all day and groups of riders had a
hack out up through the forestry, a flatwork
lesson, sessions on stable management and
horse care and a delicious lunch courtesy of our
talented catering team (many thanks to Diane!)

Area Competitions and Pony Club Championships
Two of our members took place in area competitions this summer—both with great results.
Congratulations to Ffion Loring and her horse Mario who came 3rd in the Novice Area Eventing and qualified for
the championships in August! They went on to come 10th in the British Pony Club Eventing championships— this
is a fantastic achievement and is the first time a Dare Valley Member has competed at the championships. Well
done Ffion and Mario.
Also well done to Matilda Adair
and her horse Seren who had
great results in the Area Dressage
- she came 4th in the Novice 24
test and had a fantastic score of
74.14% in the pony club intermediate test.

August Jumping Show—Vaynor
After a busy day at the Vaynor show on Sunday August 8th,
the pony club was able to hold their own fun jumping show
on site with the kind permission of the the Vaynor show
committee. Members from Dare Valley competed against
other local riders and riders from other pony clubs and
went home with lots of rosettes. Congratulations to Nia,
Summer, Jack and Matilda for coming first in either individual or pairs classes and well done to Holly, Nia, Summer
and Jack for placing in the top 3 in their classes. It was a
great show for members to have fun and practice in a relaxed environment giving the ponies lots of valuable practice — even the dogs got some practice in the ride and run.
Valleys Equestrian Association
Members and other local riders will see some of the results
of our efforts to get funding for equestrian activities in the
coming months. We’ll be using both the showjumps and
the dressage boards at the combined training show on September 5th and we have now secured further funding to
put towards members doing the Riding and Road Safety
Course at Triley Fields EC in Abergavenney and to provide
an 2 day BHS Equine First Aid course in Cwmdare.
Dare Valley members who have passed their D test will be
doing the BHS Road Safety course in September and October. The Equine First Aid course will take place at the end
of September for pony club and riding club instructors, volunteers and members and will give those who attend the
First Aid qualification from BHS.

Thinking of Joining?
If you have your own horse or pony and live in the area—why not join Dare Valley Pony Club. We are a
small club that is getting more and more active all the time. We believe Pony Club should be interactive,
informative and fun with a focus on learning and equestrian sporting activities. Our rallies and events cover
a range of activities, including schooling, show jumping and cross country.
When we have enough members interested in a particular discipline, we will set up teams to train together
and travel to the pony club area competitions and other local events.
If you’re not sure if pony club is for you, contact us or come along to a rally - there is now the opportunity
to try out 3 rallies before deciding if you want to join—so why not come along and give it a try?
