Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty is famous. The tall statue is in New York
City, in the U.S.
The statue is of a woman. She is holding a book.
On the book is the date 1776. Then America was a number of
colonies. They were governed by Britain.
In 1776 the American colonies wanted to be a separate country.
A war began.
The war was between the American colonies and Britain.
France helped the American colonies.
The Statue of Liberty was made in France. It was given to the
U.S. as a gift in 1886.
The statue is made of copper. Inside is a frame made of steel.
The Statue of Liberty is on Liberty Island. Millions of people visit
Liberty Island every year.
