eve of his sailing for France, last the verb "swim."
THE SHOE REPAIRER
Saturday.
This week a r epr esentative of The
Review interviewed Dr. Walter Rullihen, president of the University of
Delaware, asking him for further details about the proposed building. Dr.
Hullihen stated that the stories reporting a proposed new building were
en tirely erroneous, and that a s far
as he knew no plans had even been
considered for a new building to hou se
the Foreign Study Offices in Pari s.
Dr . Hullihen explained that the
Foreign Study Plan rents quarter s
in a building in Paris that is occupied
by the Bienvenue Francai se , an organ ization which makes it its function to welcome fo reign visitors to
France. This organization has been
particula rly cordial to the Delaware
Group and to repr esentatives of the
Univer sity of Delawar e who have visited France. The lease on the site
of t his building is about to expi r e, and
mo ney has been raised from member s
of the du Pont family to buy the site
and present it to the Bienvenue F r ancaise. One of Dr. Odell's missions on
hi s trip is to clear the title to this
lot. .T he only connection which the
affair has to the University of Delaware is that its Pari s offi ces are
r ented from the Bienvenue Francai se.
Dr. Odl!ll stated that Julian Ortiz
had collected $80,000 from member s
of the du Pont family to purchase the
site, and that it would be given as a
memorial to t he fir st Pierre S. du Pont
de
emours, who at the request of
President Thomas Jefferso n, of the
United States, wrote an important
book on a system of public education
for the United States. This statement was stretched to include a new
building for the University of Delaware.
nothe r erroneou s tatement appearing in the news stories relating
to t his memorial was that Dr. OdPII
was going to France as a sub titu e
for Dr. Hullihen, who cancelled a trip
several weeks ago on account of the
serious illness of hi s mother. Dr.
Hullihen sta ed that. it would be imperatively necessary- fo r him to go
abroad later in the term on bu Riness
con nected with the Foreign
tudy
