RED ROCK WEST AREA PREVENTION RESOURCE CENTER MONTHLY NEWSLETTER Making the Local Link 4th Annual Mental Health, Prevention and Substance Abuse Conference The 4th Annual Mental Health, Prevention and Substance Abuse Conference, “Real People, Real Lives,” will bring together local, state and national leaders to discuss current best practices and promising practices in the areas of mental health and substance abuse treatment and recovery, and prevention. This three-day event will provide participants with practical tools they can utilize in their agencies and communities to assist with facilitating prevention, recovery and overall wellness. Mistletoe was chosen as Oklahoma's state flower in 1893 and later changed to the state floral emblem. In 1843, “A Christmas Carol” was written by Charles Dickens in just six weeks. The first state to recognize the Christmas holiday officially was Alabama. Christmas became a national holiday in America on June, 26, 1870. Clearing up a common misconception, in Greek, X means Christ. That is where the word “X-Mas” comes from. Not because someone took the "Christ" out of Christmas. Traditionally, Christmas trees are taken down after Epiphany. More diamonds are sold around Christmas than any other time of the year. Beckham County Oklahoma Unified Resource Turning Point Coalition “OUR Turning Point” will hold their monthly meeting December 16, 2010 at noon at the Gathering Place in Elk City. Caddo County The Caddo County Interagency Coalition will host their next meeting on December 8, 2010 in Anadarko, OK. Custer County Custer Washita Health Action Team (C-WHAT) will resume their next scheduled meeting in January 2011 at the Red Rock BHS office in Clinton, OK. Dewey County Seiling and Vici Chamber of Commerce meetings are set for the first Thursday of the month in Seiling and Vici. Kiowa County The Kiowa County Coalition will host their next meeting December 20, 2010 at the Health Department in Hobart at 3:30. Roger Mills County The Roger Mills Youth and Family Coalition will host their next meeting on December 2, 2010 in Cheyenne. Washita County Washita Health Action Team will hold their monthly meeting on December 2, 2010 in Cordell.
