NPL TO HOST MINI MAKER FAIRE IN JUNE
Call for Makers is now open!
The Maker Faire is coming to Nappanee! Nappanee’s first Mini Maker Faire is scheduled
for Saturday, June 17 from 10 am to 3 pm at the downtown pavillion.
What exactly is a Maker Faire? Part science fair, part county fair, and part something
entirely new, Maker Faire is an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators,
tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial
exhibitors. All of these “makers” come to Maker Faire to show what they make and to
share what they have learned.
Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage
tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain,
inform, connect and grow this community.
The original Maker Faire event was held in San Mateo, CA and in 2012 celebrated
its seventh annual show with some 800 makers and 110,000 people in attendance.
Community-driven, independently organized Mini Maker Faires are now being produced
around the United States and the world—including right here in Nappanee.
The Nappanee Mini Maker Faire will be modeled after the original Maker Faire,
but will be a smaller, community-focused event, while still celebrating do-it-yourself
creativity and tinkering.

The call for makers is now open. Any groups or individuals
interested in participating in this inaugural event should
contact Lindsay at [email protected]. It is free
to exhibit at the Maker Faire, and community makers are
encouraged to apply! Nappanee has many unique skills to
exhibit and we hope this will be an event that can bring the
community together to celebrate creativity.
Nappanee Mini Maker Faire is independently organized and operated under
license from Maker Media, Inc.
Meet our staff!
Lindsay Brandon Smith has been at
NPL for 12 years, first as the Office
Assistant, and now as the Adult
Programming and Events Manager.
Here’s a bit more about her:
What are your hobbies? I spend
most of my free time creating. I love
to sew things, clothing for myself and
my daughter mostly. I like to bake,
to write, and of course I love reading
(that’s mandatory to work here, right?)
What is your personal
philosophy? Through my life, I keep
coming back to 1 Corinthians 4:16 18. Specifically, the idea that what is
seen is temporary but what is unseen is
eternal, so I need to keep my focus on
the unseen. This has gotten me through
many a difficult day.
What is your proudest
accomplishment? There are several
in different areas of my life, but here
at the Library, I am super proud of the
work I did to lead the Spring Into Art
committee for several years and more
recently, leading the committee that
developed the Cube.
Who is your favorite author?
I hate playing favorites, but the
author I’ve read the most and keep
re-reading is C.S. Lewis.
