How to simplify or reduce fractions without division.
1) Look at the multiplication table to find a column
that has both the numerator and denominator.
2) Write the factors for both, with the common
factor (the number on the top of the column)
written above the same common factor.
24 = 4 x 6

3) Since 4/4 =1, cancel the 4’s.
24 = 4 x 6
28
4x7
4) Repeat until the numerator and denominator no
longer have factors in common.
5) In this case, the answer is 6/7.
