The Town of Trenton will be accepting tenders for one (1) single axle truck complete
with u-shaped combination dump/spreader body and reversible plow.
Tender forms and specifications may be picked up at the Town Office, 120 Main Street,
Trenton, N.S. during regular office hours 8:30AM – 4:30PM Monday to Friday.
Tenders are to be returned to the Town Office, in a sealed envelope clearly marked,
“TENDER – Equipment Purchase – Heavy Duty Single Axle Salt Truck” and are to
be received no later than 2:00 p.m., October 5, 2016.
The Town of Trenton reserves the right to reject any or all tenders, not necessarily
accept the lowest tender, or accept any tender which it may consider to be in its best
interests. The Town of Trenton also reserves the right to waive formality, informality,
technicality on any tender.

General Instructions:
1. All bids must be submitted on the tender form supplied with the document.
2. The equipment specification sheets form part of this tender and must not be removed.
3. The Town of Trenton considers that all suppliers act in good faith and intend to supply
equipment and services of high quality.
4. The Town of Trenton will not accept any equipment or material that is inferior to or
substituted for factory supplied products.
5. This tender is not intended to exclude standard supplied equipment or materials except
where specified.
6. Only firm prices will be considered.
7. Prices are to remain valid for 60 days following the closing of the tender.
8. Late tenders will not be considered and will be returned unopened. Fax, telephone, or
email bids will not be accepted.
9. The following will be taken into consideration when awarding the tender:
 The tender meets or exceeds the “specifications”.
 All tender forms are completed in all aspects.

10. Tenders are to be returned to the Town Office, 120

15. The lowest or any tender may not necessarily be accepted. The tender may be
awarded in whole or in part.
General Requirements:
1. All tenders must be accompanied by the manufacturer’s literature and specifications
describing the equipment bid upon.
2. Complete manufacturers specifications and description shall be submitted with each bid.
Insufficient descriptive information may be cause for rejection of bid.
3. A complete set of parts books and shop service manuals are to be supplied with the
equipment. Supplier is to instruct buyer on proper operation of the equipment upon
delivery.
4. Warranty information is to be included with tender submission.
5. Tender price must include all freight, Nova Scotia MVI, duty, sales tax, and any other
charges which are applicable at the time the tender is awarded. It is the responsibility of
the bidder to determine from appropriate authorities what taxes, duties, and other
charges are applicable to this tender. Equipment is to be delivered to the Public Works
Building at 21 Glass Street, Trenton.
6. The following specifications are prepared with the intention of providing a basis for
securing competitive bids. Notwithstanding certain details of specifications, commodities
or equipment of similar design and construction will receive consideration if in the
opinion of the using department, they are considered to be suitable for the intended
application and generally conform to performance requirements.
7. Any variation from the specifications must be noted on the specification sheet and
accompanied by a statement fully outlining any departures from the specifications and
fully describing the commodities offered and may be call for rejection if it substantially
affects the performance for the intended application.

The following specifications describe the minimum requirements for a salt truck to be supplied to the
Town of Trenton. The equipment shall be new, manufactured the same year or succeeding year of the
bid, of current design and production model and available to the commercial market. Any variation
from the specifications must be noted on the bid and may be cause for rejection. One copy of the

The BTU dump body spreader shall be equipped with a
longitudinal conveyor mounted in the center of the body
allowing the spreading and cross conveyor with side spinner
to allow drivers side spreading action.

All steel used in the construction of the unit shall be Ultra
High Strength.
Front panel, sides, floor and tailgate material thickness 3/16”
Grade 450.
Body side shall be breakformed into a polygonal radius
shape for added strength and rigidity. This shape provided a
better gravity flow into the longitudinal conveyor and offer
increased yardage compared to rolled formed panels
construction.
The body side panels will discharge directly into the
longitudinal conveyor with no flat surface between to prevent
material hang up and assure gravity flow of the aggregates
into the conveyor.
Body long members shall consist of ¼” thick HSLA steel “ V ”
shaped formed sections reinforced with tubular cross
members welded to a rear sill of 14” deep x 3/16” thick.

TRANSPORT CANADA NATIONAL SAFETY MARK (NSM)

This set of regulations makes it mandatory for any truck
equipment installer to comply and affix its own certification
label as a final stage manufacturer next to the truck
manufacturer label. In such case, any modifications made to
the air supply or electrical system, drive train modifications,
etc., must be documented and kept on file by the installer,
with supporting document remitted to the new trucks owner.
This certification also makes it mandatory for the final stage
manufacturer to supply a weight distribution chart for each of
the equipment installed on the chassis upon request by the
customer.

The stationary front support structure shall be be made of
1/2" thick material and welded to the cheek plates to form
an integral assembly intended to support the hydraulic
pump bracket, the front lift cylinder base, and to be used as
a female adapter for the tilting section of the front hitch.
The stationary front support structure shall provide (2) lower
pivot points and (2) upper removable locking points.
Each of the (4) points of this female adapter should be
provided with (8) 2 1/4" dia. x 1/2" wall x 1 1/4" deep steel

moldboard weldment failure and for a better distribution
of plowing stresses.
- Vertical ribs connection to top of moldboard must allow
water drainage as the water can run free along the top of
moldboard, through the ribs connection.
- A 3” X 3” X ¼” thick steel angle construction shall run the
full length of the back of the moldboard and be welded to
each of the vertical ribs.
- A lifting lug must be welded at the back of the moldboard
on the 3” X 3” X ¼” steel angle.

length of the moldboard.
The design of the trip edge mechanism shall incorporate a

The recoil force of each spring device shall be individually
adjustable using threaded rods and bolts system to
compensate for wear and cope with various plowing
