With some 330 shows over 23 days we present the largest new writing programme at the festival and offer a hugely diverse array of live performance including the very best of theatre, musical theatre, music, children’s, dance, physical theatre, comedy, improv, sketch, cabaret and spoken word. While theSpaceUK continues to evolve and innovate with each successive year, it does not forget its original commitment to the Spirit of the Fringe as a platform for all. This very much includes embracing not only the established, professional and well-funded shows but also those that are maybe coming to Edinburgh for the first time or due to various restraints can perhaps only perform for a short run. Our relationships with many returning universities and schools continues to flourish and we welcome all those independent performers bringing shows for the first time. Our festival is a fantastic platform for all to present their work and to develop their art, it’s a unique environment to gain more experience, to meet like minded people, to encourage and to learn. With this diversity, there has developed a strong reputation for producing a high calibre of awardwinning work that audiences from across the globe are eager to see. Our winning company for 2015 was ‘Naughty Corner’ with their show ‘Not the Horse’. Winners of the NSDF award in 2014 this young company embrace the very spirit of festival and its with great pleasure we present their new show ‘Dirty Glitter’ at the 2016 Festival. Here’s their story so far: “Our first fringe was in 2014, fresh graduates from Edge Hill near Liverpool. We brought a piece of new writing called ‘The Bastard Queen’ we performed for just one week and won the NSDF Award - Not bad eh! “We transferred to London as part of the award and came back to the fringe in 2015 with another highly acclaimed new writing ‘Not the Horse’.....we won the ‘new writing - show your passion’ funding award offered by theSpaceUK and are now bringing our third new writing ‘ Dirty Glitter’ to the 2016 festival. “The fringe is a special place, without Edinburgh we certainly wouldn’t be where we are today, two strong awards, very good reviews and a north west tour, company residency in Liverpool, two years on and our journey continues, it’s very exciting. “We’re particularly chuffed to have been recognised and now to be working with not only producers of the largest new writing programme in Edinburgh but also one of the festivals most established venues.“ On a general level the fringe is just an amazing place for young artistes, it offers something for all, whatever background, age, lifestyle, it offers a platform to showcase your work without prejudice or snobbery. The atmosphere throughout the city in August is something else and the passion for live performance is unreal. As a performer, director, producer, techie, venue staff or an audience member it doesn’t matter, you can talk to people in the street, in a bar, after a show, everyone has a mutual feeling of respect, support and warmth for each other. We very much look forward to presenting our work once again in this fabulous city, we hope you come and see our show.” Mick Dickenson, Writer and Director ‘Naughty Corner Productions’ ‘Dirty Glitter’ & ‘ Not the Horse’ theSpace on the Mile, 5-27 August - times vary.
