SPONSORSHIP PACKET
PRESENTED BY DOWNTOWN PASCO DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY
WHO DOES CINCO DE MAYO
FESTIVAL SUPPORT?
The Cinco de Mayo Festival began in 1989 when a
diverse group of community members came together
and decided to have a street fair to celebrate and
promote the cultural diversity in the City of Pasco.
Downtown Pasco was chosen as the location to host
the festival as it represented the historic origin of the
city.
DPDA PRESENTS THE
CINCO DE MAYO FESTIVAL
Downtown Pasco has been celebrating Cinco de Mayo
since 1989. The event is estimated to attract 9,000 +
festival attendees this May 7th 2016.
WHAT IS CINCO DE MAYO?
Historically, Cinco de Mayo was a famous battle won
by an average Mexican Army assisted by non-military
people against a well-trained and well-equipped
invading French Army in 1862. Around this time the
North vs. South of U.S. were embroiled in Civil War
that threatened to divide our country.
When Mexico was able to stop the French invasion,
France was unable to influence the U.S. Civil War. Can
you imagine the historical outcome if the South of
U.S. would have received assistance from France
during the Civil War?
Additionally, history denotes that France had lost
Louisiana, along with the important port of New
Orleans, and its recovery would be highly profitable
to France. Although debatable how the Cinco de
Mayo shaped the outcome of the Civil War and the
U.S. history, it has become part of celebrations in
cities across the U..S
The purpose was to showcase Mexican heritage and
the importance of Cinco de Mayo in a way that
promotes economic development in the downtown
neighborhood. The festival provides cross-cultural
learning opportunities for the entire community.
Community members recognized that we learn from
each other when we spend time together. It has since
become an annual tradition each Spring where thousands gather lining up the main corridors of Downtown Pasco to watch the parade and stay after to enjoy
great food, music and art.
The Downtown Pasco Development Authority (DPDA)
is a non-profit 501c3 organization, created by the City
of Pasco to focus on the revitalization of Downtown
Pasco. We receive financial contributions from the City,
Community Development & Block Group Program as
well as public/private donations from corporate
businesses or community leaders.
The Cinco de Mayo Festival along with many other
events hosted by the Pasco Farmers Market and Pasco
Specialty Kitchen assist the DPDA's efforts in promoting economic development for the downtown.
WHAT IS THE MARKETING
OPPORTUNITY FOR MY COMPANY?
The Tri-Cities (Pasco-Kennewick-Richland) has
been one of the fastest growing regions in the
state of Washington for over a decade. The
metropolitan region alone has over 270,000
residents. Pasco, is home to a diverse cultural
community that has continued to grow at a
rapid pace and attracted many large employers since 2000. Within a short drive, residents
from across Southeast Washington State and
Northeast Oregon can reach Pasco, increasing
its visibility across the Pacific Northwest.
