WesternAustraliaisblessedwithsomeoftheworld’sbest renewableenergyresourcesandavailablelandonwhichto buildtheinfrastructure,yetwehaveoneofthelowestmixesof renewableenergyinthedevelopedworld.Just9%ofWA’s i powercomesfromrenewablesources, muchlowerthanthe globalaverage,whichisnow19%. Meanwhile,WA’stotalannualgreenhousegasemissionshave increasedby8%since2010to86milliontonnesofCO2eper year.Thisincludesincludes49.3MtCO2efromthestationary ii energysector(upby2%since2010 ).Thecommencementof iii thePlutoandGorgonLNGhubsaddafurther10MtCO2e . IncontraventiontotheParisAgreementwhichsetsoutaglobal actionplanlimitglobalwarmingtowellbelow2C,weare headingtowardsaclimatecatastrophe.Ourplanetiswarming, sealevelsarerising,andwearelivingthroughhottersummers, reducedrainfallinwinterandspringandmoreextremeweather events.Notonlydoesclimatechangehavedevastatingimpacts onthenaturalandbuiltenvironments,butimpactsourhealth andoureconomy. Thereamoralimperativeanditmakeseconomicsensetoact now.Thecoalindustryisinstructuraldeclineandtheworldis shiftingtowardscleanenergy. TheGreens’Energy2030Planwill: 1. 2. 3. 4. Recentstudieshaveshownthatbillionscouldactuallybesaved fromthetransitiontorenewablesoverthelongterm. Oneofthebiggestmythsisthatrenewableenergydrivesup pricesforeveryoneelse,whentheoppositeistrue.Recent analysisoftheRenewableEnergyTarget(RET)showedpower priceswillbecheaperwiththeRET,andinthelongrunitwill saveeveryAustralianhouseholdupto$140ontheirelectricity ix billeachyear . AnationalstudycalledtheHomegrownPowerPlanalsofound thecostoftransitioningAustralia’senergysystemto100% renewablesby2050wouldpayforitselfinlowerpricesby2025, andsave$90billionby2050,andfuelcostsavingswouldcover xxi 110%ofthecapitalinvestmentneeded . > PHASE OUT PLAN Energy2030includesatimetableforastaged,stableclosureof fossil-fueledpowerstations. Approximately500MWayearinnewrenewablecapacityis addedtothegridaswepowerdownourmostpollutingand inefficientfossilpowergenerators,basedonnewemissions intensityandairpollutionstandardstheGreenswillintroduce.
