Dedicated Teachers
Semester 1 reports will be going home to parents in the last week of term. Special
recognition of our dedicated teachers needs to be made as they put the finishing
touches to reports for this semester. There is a massive amount of work involved
in the completion and gathering data for the collation of the report. The writing
and formatting of reports is done in the teachers own time unfortunately no extra
hours are allocated in each day. If a teacher spent just 10 minutes (hugely underestimated) on each comment, in each Key Learning Area, for each student, they
would amass 35 hours (2100 minutes) of out-of-class time. Coupled with the design and marking of assessment tasks and activities directly relating to reporting
grades, you can see the commitment and diligence this job takes. So when reading the report with your child spent a thought for the hours of work gone into the
production of this valuable piece of information. Not only by the child but also
the teachers.
Dealing With Cyber Bullying Issues
During the past fortnight we have received a number of complaints about online
behaviour in relation to the various social media platforms including Instagram
and Facebook. The vast majority of social media platforms require the participants to register only after they turn 13 years of age. Therefore, there shouldn’t
be any children at our school accessing Facebook / Instagram etc. as we currently don’t have any 13-year-old students. Each service provider has their own way
to manage complaints and cyber bullying and there is also the e-safety commissioner who have their own processes and can help to remove material from social
media sites. The following site is a federal government support provided under
the “Enhancing Online Safety for Children Act 2015”:

LMBR Goes Live at Wideview
Tuesday 14th June is the much anticipated date for our school to “Go Live” with
the departments new management systems. Our office staff have been attending
training sessions for the past 10 weeks and are now prepared to commence
working in this new environment. Training will be ongoing for several months and
we ask you to be patient while all staff familiarise themselves with this big change
to our previous processes.
Communication for the commencement of banking via the office and online
(Parent Online Payment) will be advised in the newsletter so please DO NOT send
any money in until you are advised to do so.
We thank you all for your assistance, patience and understanding during this
transitional period.

Year 6 Fundraiser
Year 6 are raffling a limited edition, signed NSW State of Origin Blues Jersey. Tickets
are $1 each, 3 for $2 or 10 for $5. Tickets are on sale before school and at first half of
lunch in primary and infants. The raffle will be drawn on Thursday 23 rd June at lunch.
Wideview Wonders 2016
What a wonderful variety of talent we have at Wideview. This year we had 40 fantastic performers showcasing talent from magic, gymnastics, dance, singing and instrumental solos and duets. Performance skills
are very hard to nurture without opportunities to perform and I want to commend the bravery of our
many younger children who are taking their first steps into a musical career.
First a thanks to all the parents who encouraged their children to share their special talents with the
crowds each Tuesday. Special thanks to our comperes India P and Coen L. The event could not have happened without the support of the tech. crew who gave up their lunchtimes to help their friends look and
sound their best.
There will be a special event at 4:30p.m on Wednesday, June 29th in the hall to celebrate the best performers this year. I am delighted to invite the following 12 acts to participate in this event. It was very hard
to select because of the wide variety of ages and talents but I based the selection on preparation as well as
presentation. All children performed well but the following were the ones I felt deserved special recognition this year:
Ella F, Hannah G, Felix and Melodie H(duet), Eliza B, Matilda V, Chloe B, Anastasia B, Finn B, Lani K and
Jaide B, Zac D, Maja M, Abby W ,Ebony M, Isaac T-J, Ella R, Zala C and Jude D.
I am aware that the Glen St Dance Event is also on this date so please let me know if you are involved in
this and Mr Thomas has agreed that if there is a conflict we can showcase your presentation in an Assembly in Term 3.
There will be a showcase in the Assembly at 9:15 on Friday 11 th June for the following young performers to
which parents are invited Heidi B, Isla F, Tiana R and Jessica M.
For those who were not invited to perform please work on your special talents and I look forward to seeing
you in Wonders in May 2017.

Lost property
With the cooler weather now upon us and the students coming to school wearing their jumpers, scarves,
gloves, etc it is a timely reminder to check that their name is clearly marked on all their items.
There is once again a large amount of jumpers and hats in the lost property basket which is located inside
the foyer next to KD.
Any items in the lost property basket at the end of the school term will be handed to the uniform shop
for re-sale or disposed of.

2016 Wideview “Young Wilson” Competition
This year Wideview will be hosting a “Young Wilson” competition
inspired by the Art Gallery of NSW’s ‘Young Archie’ competition.
We would like to give our talented artists an opportunity to create
and display some of their fantastic work.
The theme of the competition is “Someone who inspires you”.
The competition will involve creating an A4 portrait of someone that you consider inspirational. You may
use any media you choose, as long as it is completed on A4 paper and can be hung. Along with the artwork you will need to provide a blurb explaining why you chose this person and the medium you used to
create the portrait.
The artworks will be judged and displayed at our annual Art Show. Winners will be announced during the
Art Show. By entering, you will have the chance to receive wonderful prizes! If you are interested in participating in this exciting competition, fill in the “Entry Card” below and return to Miss Hayward by Friday 17th

School Leaders Visit NSW Parliament
Last Thursday Matt Keen invited the four captains (Emily B, Jae F, Zoe H, Jordan S) to parliament house
in Sydney for a morning tea. First we went on a tour around parliament. Then we had morning tea and
listened to Matt Keen talk about his life and becoming a politician. After, we listened to two very inspiring people from famous sporting teams, Sharni Layton who plays netball for NSW Swifts and Australian
Diamonds and John King a Manly Rugby League player. They both told us that you should always believe
in yourself and to support one another and if you are really keen to do something you need to keep doing it and have a mentor who does what you want to do.
Both of these amazing athletes told us about the three D’s:
Dedication Determination Discipline
Sharni’s dream was to become a famous netball player on her journey she moved to Melbourne and unfortunately she had to sit on the bench for 5 years. After a while she decided that she is not going to become any better at being a netball player if she is going to training for nothing. So she decided to move
to Sydney to pursue her dream of
becoming a famous netball player.
So the point is to never give up
and try, try ,try!

Drum roll please………
The money is counted, the totals are in, we can now announce that the winners for the highest totals
raised for the Fun Run, both with a total of just over $600, are: KCG for infants and 3S for primary! Congratulations to both classes for outstanding efforts.
A big shout out goes to Tamara B in 3S who was the highest fundraiser in the school; Tamara raised $263
which is an amazing effort!
All children in these classes will receive a gift in class on Friday. Thanks to everyone in the Wideview Community who supported this event and got us $5,000 closer to our fundraising target.
Dress to impress!
The evening of Friday 17 June will see the inaugural Wideview Freecycle Ladies Night. This event involves
attendees clearing out your drawers and wardrobes, bagging up your preloved but still awesome goodies
to bring along on the night, paying $15 at the door and then mixing and matching the night away as you
peruse other people’s treasures and take home as many items as you like! There is no limit to how many
items you bring or how many you take; you just need to ensure that they are ladies items only. When
choosing what to bring think “would I give this to a friend” and if the answer is yes then bring it along!
Feel free to bring your friends and their pre loved treasures too. We won’t be catering on the night however you are more than welcome to bring your own drinks and nibbles to enjoy while you relax on the
night. Hope to see lots of you there!
Cast your vote at Wideview!
The school hall will be an election polling booth come 2 July and we will be capitalising on our captive audience with a sausage sizzle and cake stall. A “sign up” roster will be created soon and made available to
everyone to sign up for a one hour time slot to help on the day. We will also be asking people to bake or
purchase cakes and sweet treats for the stall; more info on this will be in next week’s newsletter.
Next meeting is Monday 20th June, we’re always looking for new faces with new ideas and suggestions and
offers for help so please come along and join us at 7pm in the staffroom.

Notification for Parents and Carers
All Government and non-Government schools across Australia are required to participate
annually in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability
(NCCD).
