BERNADETTE RENEE SHARP, ESQ. 2017 SCHOLARSHIP FUND WE REMEMBER This scholarship celebrates the memory and life of wife, mother and our Jack and Jill sister, Bernadette Renee McQueen-Sharp, Esq. Bernadette was born on June 27, 1967, in Inkster, Michigan to the late Cynthia McQueen and Doc Whigam, Jr. Bernadette matriculated through elementary, junior high and high school in Inkster before attending University of Detroit and graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1990. Later she returned to the University of Detroit to study law. She graduated in May 1995 and was admitted to the bar in May 1996. Bernadette met her husband, Alfred Sharp in 1991 and they married on June 3, 1995 and the couple moved to Chicago after he graduated from Harvard Business School and she completed law school. After taking time off to raise her three sons, Jared Alfred, Morgan Jonah and Jaden Marcel, she returned to school at John Marshall Law School and earned a Master of Law (LLM). Bernadette joined Jack and Jill South Suburban Chicago Chapter in 2003 and served faithfully, in multiple leadership roles up until her transition on May 21, 2016. This scholarship is dedicated to her memory and her love of God, family and continued education. SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA 1. African-American student with a demonstrated financial need, residing in the South Suburban Chicago who has suffered the loss of a parent; 2. Currently enrolled in Senior year of high school; 3. Cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.7 or higher; 4. Provide two letters of recommendation from a teacher or other school staff member; and 5. Must be accepted to a four-year college or university for the 2017-2018 school year with an interest in law, real estate or finance. Include your career plans in your essay.
