Sargeant Ja m es Anderson of F re e man Road, Mattituck, has ju st com pleted a tour of active duty with the Suffolk County Office of Emergency P reparedness (formerly Civil De fense) according to Suffolk County OEP Director Major Norman Kelly. Sgt. Anderson is assigned to Suffolk County under a new reserve program called MOBDES which enables a military reservist to earn retirem ent credit while assisting the County Emergency P rep aredness Office with his military experience and back ground. In his civilian capacity, Sgt. Anderson is employed as Assistant Protective Program s Officer by the I.R.S. at the Brookhaven Service Center in Holtsville, N.Y. Sgt. Ander■ son has formerly served on active duty with both the Army and Air Force. He is married and has one son. The Mattituck firemen were called out in the night Sunday to answer an alarm on the Boulevard. A smoldering chair was soon extinguished. Mrs. Emma Skinner of Mattituck visited on Staten Island over the weekend, w here she attended the m arriage of h er g randdaughter. Mrs. Kay Burden of Oswego, N.Y., is visiting with her sister, Mrs. M argaret MacMillan. On Saturday, July 26 at Our Lady of Good Council Church in Mattituck, a very pretty wedding took place, when Miss Susan Denizio, d au gh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Denizio of Southold, becam e the bride of David Haas, son of Mr. and M rs. Fred Haas of Mattituck. Rev. Raymond Nugent, a very close friend of both families, performed the ceremony. A delight ful reception was held at the Mattituck Manor. Mrs. Marion Rohrbach of H unting ton, spent the day, Tuesday, with her sister, Mrs. Allyn Tuthill in Mattituck. Doris Reeve entertained her can asta club on W ednesday afternoon. The Senior Citizens of Mattituck enjoyed a bus trip to Point Pleasant, N .J . on T h ursd ay . They strolled on the boardwalk, had lunch, and returned to Mattituck in the early evening. "B o b b y ” Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Johnson of Mattituck, after spending two years in Colorado, brought his new bride home for a visit with Mattituck relatives. The new bride was formerly Miss M argaret Pheeney, d au g h ter of Mr. and Mrs. John Pheeney of Sigsby Road, M atti tuck. Bob will return to his studies at the University of Colorado soon. Congratulations to the happy couple. Mrs. A rthur H. Penny, nee Jule Craven, celebrated h er 84th birthday on August 7. She and her brother, Charles Craven, usually spend their birthdays together, as they fall on the same date. He was 77, but at present Mr. Craven is in England. Mr. and Mrs. John Moore are vacationing in Nova Scotia. Have you seen the old pictures in Suter and Raynors window? It’s well worth a look. John Melot, son of Mr. and Mrs. C hester Melot of Mattituck, has returned from an archeological “ d ig ” in San Salvador, the Baham as. His trip was a credit course from Oswego College. About 20 stud en ts spent a month there, unearthing Indian relics. Mrs. Carolyn G rossenbacher and her 5 children have returned to her home in Mattituck from a m onth’s vacation in California. Mrs. G rossen bacher is one of our very efficient school bus drivers. Dr. and Mrs. Arnold Urist and three children of M arlene Drive arrived home last T hursday after an extended trip. They visited Iceland for a week, then on to Luxemburg, Germany and the Black Forest. From there they went to Bern, Switzerland and visited with Mrs. U rist’s mother and brother and families. They reported really cold w eather in Iceland, but hot in Switzerland. Thanks to everyone who worked, donated and supported the Mattituck Presbyterian Church Auction and Country Fair on July 26 which m ade it such a great success.
