October 28, 2015 Dear Parents of DKK Forest Heights, As the autumn days get shorter and shorter we look forward to celebrating our traditional Lantern Feast. Rideau Park School (10605 – 42 Ave) will be hosting a Lantern Walk on November 5 at 6 pm, and everyone is invited to participate; hot chocolate will be served afterwards. Come dressed for the weather and (if you are able) bring a treat to share. Some popular songs sung by children while walking with lanterns: Durch die Straßen (Through the Streets) – we will practice this one in class Ich geh mit meiner Laterne (I'm Walking with My Lantern) Laterne, Laterne (Lantern, Lantern) Our theme for November is Castles, Princesses & Dragons. We will also be starting on our Santa bags. One highlight for the month will be a visit from Music Together on Nov 9, a marvelous program that has been coming to DKK for the last several years. There will be no classes on Wednesday November 11 (Remembrance Day). Thanks to everyone for participating in the Read-a-thon. We were able to order some great new toys and books for the classroom. Thanks also for all your Scholastic Book Club orders. The last day for November Book Club orders will be November 4. December flyers will be available in late November to ensure delivery before the Christmas break. Many preschool-aged kids have difficulty working with scissors and glue, but they are at a stage when they are ready to improve! Support your child’s fine motor skills by providing them with simple craft materials and allowing them to experiment at home. Flyers, catalogues and calendars for cutting are always popular. Thank you for your cooperation and patience concerning the police record checks. We have many field trips scheduled for the new year and there will be many opportunities to volunteer. Our DKK Christmas Concert has been rescheduled for Wednesday, December 9 at 6:30 pm. The gym is no longer available on the original date. Please mark the change in your calendar. We do apologize for any inconvenience. Liebe Grüße and have a great weekend, Frau Christiane und Frau Ruth Es ist besser, ein einziges kleines Licht anzuzünden, als die Dunkelheit zu verfluchen.
