Clarifications and Q&A
HOW do I do this?
•
On the Pl Blackboard there is detailed explanation of each thread , information
sheets and tool kits for each. BUT feel free to use your own methods as long
as they are consistent with objectives .
Do I need to broadcast “the foundations” to LC?
•
No, not necessarily. These are the things that impactful LC’s do. Involve the
students in these activities and (applying leadership practices) try to get as
much buy-in as possible.
How much LC time for this and is this all we do in the LC
meetings?
•
Suggested times are indicated in thread explanations in handbook. The
foundations are a minimum LC backbone. BUT intensify and go beyond by
focusing on specific student interests and needs.
More Clarifications and Q&A
Do all colleges, majors and/or LC’s do the same thing?
•
The general structure of the foundations but specific activities may vary –
types of academic skills highlighted, types of guests, focus in mentoring
sessions, etc.
How will my implementation of the curriculum be
monitored?
•
PLC will provide a planning sheet for each thread - will be distributed at
training and will be on PL Blackboard. We will ask about your progress
periodically at PL meetings and on weekly reports. And we will collect
planning sheets.
Final Caveats and Tips
Do you have tips for getting students into it?
•
Be enthusiastic, champion the cause, be resilient and go with the punches,
plan engaging activities, get feedback and modify continuously, don’t
expect perfection, supportively challenge, encourage persistence and
celebrate achievements – small and large.
What if I am having problems?
•
See PLC and/or Greg ASAP. It’s normal. But a stitch in time saves nine!
